I guess some of you are losing me a bit here.  Isn't the map in the SE Pro Super Tuner.  I don't have a copy of my map anywhere.

Which leads me to another question that I thought I knew the answer to before, and now I'm having second thoughts.  Can the SE Pro Super Tuner be used on another bike at a later date, or is it forever tied to this bike now?  I guess what I'm asking is whether I need to buy another new tuner if I ever trade this bike in and wanted to use the same tuner once again?

Map is downloaded to your ECM - it is a one way comm. If you don't have a copy of it - then you don't have a copy of it.

The SERT dongle "marries" to your ECM. One time deal.

Isn't the map still in the SE Pro Super Tuner.  If something happened to the ECM, couldn't it be re-downloaded from the SEPST?

I missed the "pro super" before, so not sure. With the regular SERT the map is on your computer - you download though the dongle which is "married" to your ECM, and it will work with only one ECM.

If something happened to your ECM and it was replaced you would need a new SERT dongle and then just reload the map that you have "saved" on your computer. See the pattern - you need to have the file, you cannot retrieve it from the ECM - that may be different with your "Super Pro"

Sounds like I need to contact the shop and see if they keep a copy.  I would assume then that if they do have a copy, and I was in dire need in a far off land, the dealer would be able to e-mail the file to whatever dealer I was stranded at.  I'm starting to see some advantages to going back to carburetors. :beatdeadhorse:

My bike was tuned using Direct Link, I keep the memory stick in my tour pack. While I am in Phoenix I am going to have Nick Trask change from the stock SE HD Stock TB to a Zippers' 50mm and bike will probably have to be retuned and dynod.

I didnt get a copy of my map either, tuner said he saved it on his computer base and could at a future date upload it again. I have the super sert, and i believe what porthole wrote to be correct, the super tuner can record (up to 15mins) data from ur bike if connected to it while riding. This recorded data can be downloaded onto the tuners computer so possible fine tuning can be made but i dont know if a full map can be stored in the super sert memory. My gut feeling is a full map is not stored in the super sert.

Oh yeah!  give me a carburetor anyday!

What I did when I had mine tuned was take a disc in with the bike and asked them to put a copy of the file on it. Some dealers/tuners will do this for you some will not... those that will not, will not tune my bike.

You paid for it - get your copy. If service will not then go directly to the principle. The file copy should not b e a deal breaker that would keep me out of the store.

I have no doubt they would use your file for a baseline on the next job similar to yours.

FI is obviously more complicated and expensive, but I'll take it any day over the carbs ..........................................
With a SERT (or similar) you can do far more tweaking then you ever could with venturi's and negative pressure  :2vrolijk_21:

Ditto here.

Spoke with a local shop last week on this and they said no problem, they just were not use to that request.
