Last week, I took my bike in because the heated seat and GPS did not work. They told me that there was power to the seat and the problem was inside the seat, and that they ordered me a new seat, which was on backorder. They also told me that technical service told them that there wasn't anything further that could be done with the GPS, and that a new module was necessary, also on backorder. They said that my bike had a module that was among a group that had a problem that could not be fixed without the new module.
On the way home from the dealer last week, I noticed my butt getting hot. The seat was working again. They claim they did not fix anything and cancelled the seat order for me.
Last night they called to tell me that my new GPS module had arrived and they could put it in this morning. After they put it in, I decided to try it in the parking lot before I left. The screen said "Navigation System Not Installed, See Dealer", so I went back in and showed them the problem. They took the bike back in and tried again, and after speaking with technical service, told me that they received a bad module and they would have to reorder another one. They put my stock module back in. I asked the service manager if there's any chance this one will start working on the way home, like my seat did. He laughed and told me no chance. I left the NAV CD in for the ride home and sure enough, part way home, I noticed it had acquired a satellite. Then it acquired 2 satellites. I decided to ride a little further and by the time I saw 4 satellites, I stopped and programmed in my home address. On the way home, since it seemed to be working perfectly, I veered off from the GPS directions several times and each time recalculated immediately and took me home perfectly. By the time I got home, it had acquired 6 satellites.
I just called the dealer and asked him straight out if he was just screwing with me. When I told him it's working now, all he could say was "You've got to be joking". I told him I'll try it again in the next several days and let him know if this is a fluke or if just taking it out and putting it back in got it working. I guess I'm lucky to have a dealer that can wave their magic wand and fix things that can't be fixed and not even know they fixed them.
