My dealer has healing powers.
« on: March 13, 2009, 03:38:19 PM »

Last week, I took my bike in because the heated seat and GPS did not work.  They told me that there was power to the seat and the problem was inside the seat, and that they ordered me a new seat, which was on backorder.  They also told me that technical service told them that there wasn't anything further that could be done with the GPS, and that a new module was necessary, also on backorder.  They said that my bike had a module that was among a group that had a problem that could not be fixed without the new module.

On the way home from the dealer last week, I noticed my butt getting hot.  The seat was working again.  They claim they did not fix anything and cancelled the seat order for me.

Last night they called to tell me that my new GPS module had arrived and they could put it in this morning.  After they put it in, I decided to try it in the parking lot before I left.  The screen said "Navigation System Not Installed, See Dealer", so I went back in and showed them the problem.  They took the bike back in and tried again, and after speaking with technical service, told me that they received a bad module and they would have to reorder another one.  They put my stock module back in.  I asked the service manager if there's any chance this one will start working on the way home, like my seat did.  He laughed and told me no chance.  I left the NAV CD in for the ride home and sure enough, part way home, I noticed it had acquired a satellite.  Then it acquired 2 satellites.  I decided to ride a little further and by the time I saw 4 satellites, I stopped and programmed in my home address.  On the way home, since it seemed to be working perfectly, I veered off from the GPS directions several times and each time recalculated immediately and took me home perfectly.  By the time I got home, it had acquired 6 satellites.

I just called the dealer and asked him straight out if he was just screwing with me.  When I told him it's working now, all he could say was "You've got to be joking".  I told him I'll try it again in the next several days and let him know if this is a fluke or if just taking it out and putting it back in got it working.  I guess I'm lucky to have a dealer that can wave their magic wand and fix things that can't be fixed and not even know they fixed them.

I didn't until you brought it up.  Friday the 13th.  Is that why my GPS is working?  I better check it again in a few days.

I was just figuring out when I can reasonably take off for a ride down there.  It looks like around the 29th or 30th.  Then I realized that would put me there on April 1st, and I started thinking...do I really want to be around Larry and Rick on April Fool's Day?  Anyway, in case you weren't aware, I'm planning to take a ride down your way sometime in the next few weeks.  I'm hoping to get to meet up with both of you and get some sort of a ride in together.  But April Fool's Day with the two of you just sounds a little scary.

In reality, once I get my ghost pipe installed and if the weather looks worthy, I could leave here up to a week before those dates.  If and when I do decide to get on the road, I'll make sure I've given some advance warning.

Now there's a first post you don't see everyday.  Not that I'm picking on you, but I'm wondering...do you have a CVO bike?  What model and year etc?  I saw all the little tiny links you provided below your post and it seems that you have products that you are trying to sell, and only a first post of "ok"?  It's a little out of the ordinary, so I'm asking.  If you have a CVO, introduce yourself in the introduction section and join the family.  Let's see some pics of your ride and get ready to learn things about your bike that you never thought about.

If they didn't work, they have a problem.  Wouldn't it be better to replace the seat & GPS while under dealer warranty?  I would worry now that they would fail after warranty.  Maybe I'm just paranoid?

My dealer seems to have just the opposite problem....

Took my 09 SERG in for CB Radio/Intercom install on Friday, March 6. Pick it up on Wednesday, March 11.

1. The Clutch Safety Switch was either damaged or not reinstalled properly when the left hand control was updated to include the PTT for CB/Intercom. This means the bike will now only start in neutral. Not the end of the world, but I'm gonna get it fixed...

2. I turned on the radio, pressed the COM button and I get the nice message "COM Option Not Installed. Please See Dealer." They forgot to flash the radio to tell it the CB is now there. So, I might as well not have a CB at the moment.

Twice now, I've had errors on parts ordered. I orderd J&M Audio headset for rider and passenger when the bike came in. Dealer only ordered one headset. When I pointed this out, they gladly ordered a second. However, they forgot to order the lower half connector cord for the second one. Of course, not that it matters since my CB isn't working at the moment.

The dealer can't replace a part that is working.  If I wouldn't have told them that the items were now working, they could have still replaced them, but then I have the chance of them screwing something else in the process, so I'm happy to have working parts at this point.  If there is something truly wrong with the parts, I would expect the problem to recur before the next 4.5 years of my warranty.
