Our good friend Hogasm here will tell you that Harley sells good parts for the most part, I tend to agree, for the most part.

IMHO ,there is no magic in spark plugs, but you can put in the wrong plug. hd plugs are good and the right ngk
plug is good and others are ok but i dont use them so i dont know. for high performance/race track is a different
story.   just my .02 cents                                            axil

Thanks fellows.  This thread reminded me to change my NGK's yesterday with 12,500 miles on them.  Normally change at 10K..

The iridium plugs can be gapped. The ground strap has to be bent (easier done with the propper gapper) and then the wire .040 gapper inserted gently in the gap.  If you bend the strap to far, tap gently on a hard surface.  These plugs aren't very close out of the box.  Would post a picture but this gapper is in a coworkers toolbox.

Still have the same opinion I've shared many times before around here.  Use the stock plugs, change them every spring just for grins (they don't need to be changed based on electrical performance, I change them because after removing them to spray a little fogging oil in the cylinders for winter storage I don't have replacement crush gaskets and I do not believe in reusing crush gaskets).

Unlike the two stroke bikes I rode in the '60's, modern bikes don't use up spark plugs as fast as you can screw them in and out.  In this modern age of thinking "green", throwing away perfectly good plugs, oil, and various other maintenance items really isn't something to be bragging about.  It doesn't mean your bike is better maintained and thus will automatically perform better and last longer, it just means that you spent more money on unnecessary stuff than the next guy.

If you aren't anal about reusing crush gaskets like I am, and you don't run your mixture so rich or lean that you foul or erode the electrodes, there is no reason to change plugs more often than the manufacturer recommends.  If you decide to upgrade to iridium or platinum plugs for increased plug life, there is definitely no valid reason to change them out early.  And if you really believe all those advertisements about releasing hidden power and mileage with the latest whiz-bang spark plug invention (those ads can be found going back almost as long as the entire history of the internal combustion engine, btw, along with the other magic elixers), you really need to send your unneeded money to me for safe keeping.

I have to agree with Axil and GRC. And to tell you the truth if and when I do change them it is original HD. Only because at some point in time I am at the dealership and they are hanging on the wall. Gap at 40 thou and run them. Jerry reusing the cruch gaskets has never bothered me and to tell you the truth I have never gave it a second thought TILL NOW!!!!! So I guess I will keep an eye out for black around the plug openings.

Also in your stock or streetable Harley the type of spark plug you run won't make any difference as long as it is the correct plug and the correct heat range. I would tend to look at your coil and wires for more power. But again in a street bike if they are in good working condition I don't think it matters.

Be Safe

Another vote here for stock plugs. I tried the Irridiums in my bike and did not notice any performance gain. Mike, I agree that wires are a better place to look for better performance. I use and sell the Hot Wires from Nology.

Sorry to say same scenerio on the Nology wires.
The Delphi ion sensing circuit will not like anything in the line from the coil to the plug tip that causes much of a variation in resistance from stock parts. I think this rules out the Nologys and many aftermarket wires. Carb bike no problem but not and endorsment.
