When I looked at the RED LINE web site I found that they have the heavy shock proof for the tranny as well as a V-Twin Shock Proof. As for the MTL is there a weight I should be looking for?

Please advise,

Topper

I am still in need of info on what Red Line (HEAVY SHOCK PROOF) to order.  The reg Shock Proof or the V-Twin?  As for the MTL is there a weight I should be looking for.  I am hoping to order this soon.

Thanks guys,

Topper

I don't use their oil, but I use the Heavy ShockProof, now called V-Twin transmission oil with Shockproof, and the Primary gets MTL, which is now V-Twin Primary Case Oil.

Heavy Shockproof and the V-Twin Shockproof are two separate products.

Ok, my shop changed to the new V-Twin, I must have misunderstood them, I thought they said it replaced the regular Shock Proof.

So are you saying to go with the V-Twin formula for both?

I'm not sure, I used Heavy Shockproof in the past, just picked this up, my local shop is now carrying the V-Twin transmission instead of the Heavy Shockproof. Looking at the web it doesn't show much difference, but they charge more for the V-Twin.

Heavy ShockProof®

A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities.

Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90.

V-Twin Transmission Oil with ShockProof®
Similar to Red Line's Heavy ShockProof®, V-Twin Transmission Oil with ShockProof® provides unequalled protection for both stock and aftermarket American V-Twin transmissions.

This product dampens transmission noise (reducing the notorious shifting “clunk” found in these gearboxes), dramatically reduces temperature, provides thicker oil films between gear teeth and completely resists throw-off. It is compatible with petroleums and synthetics.

The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90.

If your ordering on line, I'd go with the Heavy Shockproof, it's sightly cheaper, my local dealer charged me a dollar more and I've always had good luck with it, really makes the trans shifts smooth! But either would work, I get mine locally and so I'll just get which ever they carry. As for the MTL, I used it, but think that the fluid used in the primary isn't as important as the motor, or trans. As I've said in the past, the main job of this fluid is heat transfer. But some fluids can be a problem with the clutch, so you don't want to use just anything. I think MTL, is overkill, but again, I've been using it. Now have the primary case oil because that's what the local shop carries!

V-Twin Primary Case Oil

Red Line’s new V-twin Primary Case Oil is designed specifically for ’84-to-present V-Twin American motorcycle engines, including aftermarket engines of similar designs. Similar to our MTL, this product is for use in the primary chaincase with wet-diaphragm spring clutches.

Designed to operate over a wide temperature range, this Primary Case Oil improves clutch operation while reducing wear and temperature. Where most synthetics are too slippery for clutch operation, this friction-balanced product is balanced to provide less slip, smoother operation, and helps to apply more power in modified engines.

Here's the reason I give for using the Heavy Shockproof

The sales guy set up a bottle of each on the counter and asked, which one you want?

I did what any smart guy would do.

I whipped out the phone and called 1-800-Help-Me-Jim. (hd-dude)

Jim said, "Get the Heavy Shockproof"

So, I bought 6.

Easy enough!
