The handling of the 09's are hands down far better than prior years. Hold a turn much better.
Iroar, if you found it more difficult to turn during a short test, I'm betting you were going slow and did not realize how much heavier the 09's are. The dry weight of my '04 RG was 746 lbs. The '09 is 783, 820 with fluids!! Once your at speed, the '09;s fly adn feel far more planted and stable in turns. Just reading about the improvements lead me to order the SERG... Love it!
IROAR, I agree with Greg. The 09's are much heavier than earlier years.
However, Greg is understating the weight of the 09's... at least for the SERG. Take a look at the
2009 FLTRSE3 Spec Sheet[/ur] on Harley's web site.
Here it states the the b]dry[/b] weight of the SERG is 846.90 lbs!!! In running order, it tips the scales at 880.60 lbs!!! (
Ladies and Gents we are now within striking distance of the GoldWing's 900+ lb heft.)
However, the SERG handles incredibly well in tight twisties. I got in almost 100 solid miles of twisty roads on Tuesday -- Cherohala Skyway to Santeelah Rd to Hwy 143 to Hwy 129 (Tail of the Dragon) to Foothills Parkway to 321. My SERG gave me the confidence to corner somewhat agressively after only a few minutes. As I put more curves and miles behind me, my confidence grew and I realized that the SERG is more forgiving than my 05 FLTRI or 07 FLTR.
You've got to ride the 09 Touring bikes for a little while to
truly appreciate the changes in the handling.
Just my $0.02 worth...
