How fast will these SE's do the quarter mile?
« on: April 15, 2009, 01:03:14 AM »

I just posted something in another thread that made me think of this question.  How quick are these bikes?  Let's assume a stock SE engine with pipes, A/C, and dyno'd on an Ultra.  In general, about how many seconds for the quarter?

In the stock form, I'm not sure you can measure the time in seconds.......

Huh?  Why not?  Will it do 12 seconds, 13, 16?  It certainly doesn't take minutes to run the quarter.  I don't think I understand the comment.

You'd have to find someone who's kept their bike stock!

I'd guess mid 14's. Mine will do a low 13 I believe and just based on how much I pull my buddy, I'm thinking mid-14's is about right. Obviously, this is just a gut feel.

Wondering how quickly a generally stock bagger does the 1/4 is a lot like wondering how well a shop vac will do picking up cheerleaders at a bar; wrong tool for the job.

I was running 12 flats at the dyno drags a couple of years ago in Reno.  Was on the Cherry: 103 with YB13 cams.  Could have gotten into the 11's if I powershifted and came out of the hole at a little higher RPM

i have one issue with "dyno drags", it doesnt factor in the wind drag of that half sheet of plywood that HD calls a fairing.
I am not doubting your bike pulls, but i would have to see a real world 12 second quarter on a track. I have a 97 yami YZF1000 with over $5k into the engine and it just touches mid 10's, i would be embarrased to know my HD is only a couple seconds slower and more comfortable.

Not trying to be negative, i would just have to see it for myslef, i am sure you have a nice bike.

I totally agree.  It is not a "real world" race, just something to have fun with
