you do not turn off the acr's , you turn off the knock sensor. I would not go back to that dealer.   axil

That was the other thing he said...knock sensor...but I didn't remember what it was.  It didn't seem pertinent, at least to me, that he mentioned 2 things that were disabled.  Is there no reason to disable the ACR?  It's times like this that I wish I had a laptop.

Hopefully, I'll make it through my 2 trips over the next couple weeks, and then I am going to take it in for that problem alone and tell them it needs to be taken care of.  At this point, it's been all passing side conversation, as I've had my bike in for other things.  I haven't really expressed any urgent concern that they needed to fix it, and I know that even though they said they would try to figure it out while it was in, they won't do anything unless it's on the work order.  Right now, it does it once when it's hot and starts right up on the second try, so I'm confident that I'll make it through a few weeks.  They can feed me all the bull they want for now, but ultimately, they'll be put on the spot to fix it quickly.  It sure would be nice if no other problems pop up before that.

The ACR aren't turned off by the tech. When you download a SE Super Tuner the ACRs have to be turned on again. Sometimes the tech just forgets.

They checked mine today.  They were activated.  The manager told me that whether the tech deactivates them or the program does, he knows for sure that he has to activate them when he is done.  He told me that after thinking about it, it could be something that could easily be forgotten, so he checked it out to make sure.  He had the problem happen when he tried to start the bike himself, so he realized that he needed to check this after all.  He told me he ordered me a new starter already.

Interesting issue- since the MoCo could in theory  void your warranty for engine related problems or fixes due to using the SERT, since its intended for "race" use only. javascript:void(0); And this is one more reason why getting your engine tuned at the dealership is the usually a last resort.

They found my starting problem....The starter clutch behind the primary had excessive wear at 5,000 miles. The wear problem was caused from the ACR's were turned off .. I had complained about the starter problem since new..

I just picked up my 08 SE ultra from the dealer for this very same problem.  During one of the recalls, the ACR's got turned off.  I had been putting up with it for several months.  After reading about the problems here, I realized mine had the same problem as several others and took it in for service.  It was fixed the same day I dropped it off.  No charge.

Thanks for the tip on the problem.

It's good to hear that you are getting your scoots fixed with the starting problems....mine is starting every time now that the ACRs were reactivated and the starter clutch was replaced.   :)

My bike is done and they replaced the ACR's.  I haven't picked it up yet, but I sure do hope that fixed the problem.  I'm hoping the shop didn't just replace them because I told them I thought that was the problem.  Hopefully they actually checked things out and determined on their own that this was the fix.

Ride like the wind.

This should fix it.

You would think that with as many 110's in the world the dealer's would know this stuff.

Took my scoot in this morning for some minor warranty work.  Had dealer also check the status of the ACR due to a rough starting scoot and the information contained within this thread (SE Pro Super Tuner installed this past Dec.). GUESS WHAT??  The ACR is now enabled and what a difference it makes in starting.   :dankk2: to all that contributed their experiences and their knowledge about this issue.

Ride safe,

Well on my 3rd trip to my local dealer I am once again told that they cannot duplicate my start problem. It happens to me 2 to 3 times a day and they say they can't duplicate it. They informed me that the ACR's are turned on and that it starts perfect everytime. My question is due you have to hold your face someway or push the start button a special way to get it to start normal????? This is the third dealer I have gone to and they all say they can't duplicate the smoke blowing out of the intake and the heavy grinding noise of the starter. I give up!!!!!!!!

Desertbear, try starting the bike without waiting for the light to go off.  I know, just try it.  In other words, switch it on and hit the start button.  No waiting.

While there are legitimate reasons why a service facility should verify a complaint before making repairs, all too often many shops just use the "can't duplicate" excuse to get rid of you on an issue they don't want to mess with or don't know how to fix.  Since you've already tried three dealerships, I don't know what else to tell you other than call H-D directly and file a complaint.  If the ACR's are turned on, which this dealer claims they verified, that doesn't mean they are actually working properly.  And btw, I've seen plenty of "techs" over the years walk over to a car with an intermittent problem, try the offending system one time, and then write on the ticket "no problem found" which is the same as "cannot duplicate".  If the problem requires riding for a period of time, shutting the bike down for a period of time, and then occurs after trying to restart then I can understand why they all tell you they can't duplicate it.  Very few places will take the amount of uncompensated time on a warranty job to do all of this.  Maybe you need to talk to the dealer where they made the big bucks on the sale and let him worry about how to pay a tech to do a proper road test and diagnosis if H-D won't.
