09' CVO 110" any issues . . .
« on: May 04, 2009, 06:15:54 PM »

Considering the 09 'FLTRSE3, but after the bad track record on the
previous years ??? Leaking base seals, heat and pinging.

I ride a average 10k miles a year, I need a reliable ride.
I could bling out a 09' 103" RG with a FLTRSE3 tail section.

Thanks

I've got 2400 miles on my SERG since I got her on Feb 11, 2009. The motor does get hot, especially if you are doing a lot of idling or slow riding. Otherwise, no troubles so far.

Two words of advice:   E X T E N D E D   W A R R A N T Y   ! !

Other than than, at 6,000 miles (since October), I lost a starter clutch on the SERG.  Broike down at the dealer in Santa Maria.  Took an hour to replace under warranty.  Tech says that's the first one he has seen go out.  Engine itself seems fine (after cat removal, replacement of exhaust cores, heavy breather and SERT).  No leaks.

 :P :P :P

My previous SE 110 had two rebuilds in less than 10,000 miles due to the rear cylinder.  Around 11,000 miles the engine was recalled by HD and the dealer rebuilt the engine with the HD recall.  Lowered the compression and a bunch of new stuff.  Bike went over 9,000 miles in the Texas heat with no problems.

The new 09 is much cooler and runs great.  I think HD fixed the heat issues with the new header pipes and other mod's.  No issues with buying mine and expect to ride it for a long time.

Pushed 270 degrees in stock trim.  After coring the cat, 2" Fullsac baffles, and AMSOIL throughout, it only reached 245 F.  I just had the SERT and Dyno at around 13 AFR...max today in 85 degree ambient temps and running those snap-on Naugahyde lowers...max 230 degrees.    Without the lowers which block off more than the ABS ones I could only get it to 219 F.  No knocking since the SERT either!

Running full synthetic, you're sopposed to get it between 220 and 230 to boil off all impurities...so I've read.

Looks like (from your pic) you're riding an '05 RG -- same color/year as my previous.  I went from that bike to a standard '09 RG & started spending $$ on a ton of items to make it mine.  Mirrors, bars, heated grips, heated Corbin solo, luggage rack, Road Tech nav, Road Tech radar detector, Clearview shield, Hogtunes, garage door opener, HO headlamp bulbs, TTS Mastertune, Fullsac mufflers, Bitubo shocks, etc.  The usual stuff, all of which I would buy if a CVO or not.  I did spend more for chrome control housings, pegs, shifter arms, floorboards, and a CVO headlamp bezel (which I would not have purchased w/CVO).

I made this decision mainly after reading all the posts about the 110.  I knew I would want more power, so the warranty wouldn't help me.  I'm going with a 117 this winter & will still be way ahead of the game (financially) vs CVO.

When complete I won't have all the cool CVO body features (especially the rear), I can't say it's CVO, and I won't have CVO resale advantage.  The resale doesn't matter to me, as I plan to ride this one for a loooooong time.

Good luck with your decision!

PS -- the riders here are cool dudes & will treat you with respect whether you ride a CVO or not.   :2vrolijk_21:
