'04s didn't come with a tour-pak at all.  I added a fixed mount king tour-pak to mine, along with saddlebag guards.

Do I have your permission to use that?  I've never seen a better description of my passenger's function.    ;D

King Pak ruins the whole flow of the bike, for a minumal amount of added storage. Can't think of much else you could do that would look worse, but then some people put saddle bag gaurds on...

I have a King pak too pez. I can't believe how much more room it has compared to the chopped pak. Of course if I'm worried about what someone else thinks ruins the flow of the bike, which I'm not, I can always remove for around town. Extra room is nice on long trips, especially if you put them saddlebag guards on you can add more storage with the bags! Just kick your feet up on them KuryAkyn switch blade highway pegs and enjoy the long haul!!!! ;D

With the space lost to a lid organizer the king pak ends up giving just about twice as much space as the chopped.  Not insignificant; especially when you're only using it for long trips.  For that kind of task and utility it's a good tool.  Adding easily detachable flexibility to a motorcycle is never a bad thing.  Some will think the saddlebag guards suck too; right up until they use them.  The only thing that's a real waste, actually, is complaining about things that aren't one's own.

I've got the detachable king on my bike.  I wouldn't waste my time with the chopped.  My helmet woudn't even fit in it.  Plus the chopped costs more.

Goose, in a way you 04 riders had a choice.  You could at least pick the one you wanted after the fact.  In 05 we got a chopped pack; no option.  So if we wanted the flexibility and space that you chose we had to pony up for a second pak.  Lot more space, pack for a week instead of a weekend or the big camera bag with a couple of bodies and several lenses and other goodies.  None of those were options with the chopped pak.  The chopped pak does indeed "look" better.  But when you're actually riding any distance for your enjoyment it ain't all about looks.
