Seat tear on '09 CUSE
« on: June 10, 2009, 07:07:39 PM »

Wondering if anyone has seen anything like this.  There is a tear in the leather on my seat  - in the front, bottom, right side of seat (left in the pictures).  The leather seems to be very thin in this location, and there seems to be a thin baseplate that is sharp enough to poke through.  Hopefully, they will replace the seat when I take it back again for the completely cold heated grips.

Ther dealers are replacing the seats with a new part number. The new seat has a lot of padding to cover the plastic that is ripping the seat.

An update...  After about 6 weeks, the dealer had a Harley rep look at the seat to approve of the warranty replacement.  Apparently, if the seat is not torn on a seam, a replacement must be pre-authorized.  Anyway, the HD rep agreed to replace it, and it finally arrived & was replaced last week - almost 3 months to the day since first reported.  I like the new seat - it seems to be more comfortable, and they definitely took care of the core cause of the tear.  Unfortunately, the famous HD quality control was again a problem, as the day after replacement, the seam on the insert was split and unraveling.  This time, the dealer was able to order a replacement without all of the pre-approvals, so hopefully I will get a good one before three months pass again.

During this same service episode, they also replaced the heated hand grips, which had gone from lukewarm to stone cold in their first three months of use.  The replacements started off life a little warmer, but barely on the warm side of lukewarm.

 :drink: :drink:

Just had my new replacement seat with the new part number from my dealership.  HD recognizes the problem and repalces all the seats that split.

The new seat looks like the old one except where the rip was.  Huge difference in the design.

Get the new one, takes a while.

just got my 010 cuse aweek ago, less then 500 miles and has exact same problem. brother has 09 and his is the same.

My seat was torn on the front-left-underneath at time of delivery. The dealer ordered a new seat before I ever drove off the lot. The new seat just arrived and I was planning to have it swapped this weekend. The dealer also ordered the following at time of delivery for warranty replacement on my 2010 SEUC:
- New front fairing - the original one had a small drip of clear coat at delivery that required a replacement
- Replacement remote power locking module - my remote could only operate the power locks from about 1 foot away from the bike's tank and only from the right side of the bike. It's supposed to operate up to about 12 ft from the bike.
- Replacement heat shield - The welds from the bracket for the heat shield clamp on the section covering the 2 into 1 (before it splits back to 2) had deformed the pipe such that when they chromed the shield, it left 2 very noticeable raised dimples. They ordered a replacement heat shield.

Hopefully all issues above will be right by this weekend since the replacement parts have all come in.
