Some artists are still cutting vinyl.. the new Dave Matthews Band album is available on vinyl as well as CD and download.

Dave commented that this will probably be the last one in media format , from here on out it will probably download only.

I have about 400 Vinyl albums and a turnatable. although I'm thinking of getting a USB turntable to convert them all to digital for preservation. They now have software that helps clean them up.

Is it true that they'll last longer on vinyl than CD's?  spyder

I think this is a waste of time, even if you clean up the signal to noise ratio.

The beauty of Vinyl is the Analog recording, not the media. The Vinyl media sucks, but the advantage is the recording.

CD's have no wear as you play them like Vinyl.

CD's are all digital recording and a A to D converter has to be used to put Analog recordings on CD's

Having Vinyl around for the sake of not being able to get a CD to replace it is one thing, but the real Vinyl craze is about the Analog recording being reproduced on  analog equipment.
Which I would bet that most do not have or willing to invest in.

Some just like the bigger graphics you get on the album covers, something that was important and was lost in the CD era

The only thing that will make vinyl last longer is not to play them and store them properly.

Vinyl wears every time you play it.

Bought a copy of Dark side of the Moon the other day at an antique shop for $3.00 My 25 year old college student son was pretty pleased to add it to his growing collection. He has quite a few of my copies of various artist but I don't mind. It's kind of cool to have your son ask you for advise on good albums. I need to get the old turntable out and give it a spin!

Not only that, but there's something about playing Side 1 or Side 2 of an album.  We all knew what song came next, and the side length was just perfect between hits.  :coolblue:
