CB Volume
« on: November 18, 2005, 02:18:05 PM »

Has anyone noticed that the volume on the new 2006 CB is very low?  I have the volume on the radio at about ¼ and it’s plenty loud at 70 mph.  The CB and the intercom, on the other hand is always on full volume and it sounds like everyone is whispering.  It doesn’t matter if I am using the speakers or the headset.  I almost always use a full-face helmet with a Harley headset.

I took the bike to the dealership and they installed the radio software update but I didn’t notice any difference.

I am just wondering if I’m the only one with this problem or if it’s a 2006 CB/Intercom problem?

I use my CB quite a bit and have had no problems with the volume.  I always use it with my headset and boom mike.

I took the bike into the dealer and they did the new software load for the radio and the volume did improve, but still not enough volume to satisfy me.  Another problem I discovered this weekend while riding with several friends is that when I transmit I completely overpower everyone else and lots of static unless I am about 2 to 3 miles out and then I am crystal clear, problem with that is at that distance I cannot longer hear them.

Did you get any further with this CVOinLV?

After reading my quote I think I need to learn how to write a little better.  Anyway nothing new yet, the dealer told me the following:

Bruce,
Your technical expertise far exceeds mine. It didn't make complete sense to me, but that's the information I was given.
Stay tuned for any updates-----

I guess I don't completely understand the frequency fix they should be
changing/fixing the defective radios by switching to the already
approved frequency that everyone else is using i.e. 2005 and older.

Thanks and standing by,

Bruce,
I finally heard back today from Harmann-Becker. The problem has been
isolated, and a repair is underway. What they have to do is secure FCC
approval to change the frequency. They think it will take as little as 4 weeks, as much as 8 weeks. They appreciate the patience, and will work as quickly and diligently as possible.
I hope this will suffice for now, and that we can get the resolution
quickly.

Ultras that I have lessen to have the same problems that I am having but
Susann's new bike sounds great and everyone that we have ridden with
agrees.

Bruce,
At the dealer meeting the end of January they told me the target was
60-90 days, but would not make a commitment to that time. We are
following up with them regularly. Sorry 'bout the holdup. I'll stay in
touch.

I have heard that now the manufacture of the stereo system is involved
with a solution to the CB problem but I am still wondering what type of
a schedule have they presented to you or the Harley Corporation?

Thanks Bruce.  I hope they are working on a fix for UK bikes too.  My suspicion is that they are - on the 2006 bikes - using the European CB frequencies, not the UK-only ones that older bikes must have used.

Hi CVOinLV,

I too live in Vegas.  I have not tried my CB yet,  but if you ever need a 06 SEUC to compare with I would be happy to meet you somewhere around town.

I have spoken to a couple of 06 SEUC riders here in Vegas.  Do you belong to the SNHOG chapter ?

Hi CVOinLV,

As a regular user of CB, I noticed there is no LO-DX filter on this Advanced Audio radio.

That's Local or Distance filter.

When in LO mode, it pulls in strong local signals, preventing faint or distant signals from breaking in.

When in DX mode, it pulls in strong distant signals, as well as local.

Like I said, I can't find the LO-DX filter on this new unit, so all signals try to break in and interupt your com.

Too bad. For all the money this thing cost, they could have added a nice feature.

BTW, has anyone tried the Blue-tooth module or GPS module?

I saw the GPS...very expensive for 2 colors (green with black letters or orange with black letters).

Be interested in blue-tooth.

Anyone?

Are you getting it wet when you wash it?  Mine took a few days for it to dry out before it starting working again. So I made a waterproof cover that fits over the radio so it does not get wet any more when I wash it.

Don't ya just love it - a motorcycle that you can't get wet!  What will they think of next???

Seriously, I found early on with my SEEG that I had to tape off the radio prior to washing the bike.  Of course, that works for wash jobs, but what about rain storms?  Is it too much to ask that a radio meant to be exposed to the elements actually be waterproofed from the MoCo?

Yap belong to SNHOG and I believe we have talked a few times.  I'd be happy to test your CB with you on an up coming ride, are you going to Twin Falls, ID with us?

If you do the test let me know how it goes, CVOinLV - I think the situation is that 06 can communicate with 06, but not with earlier.  See this thread too:

CVOinLV,
I can not make the Twin Falls, ID ride,  my daughter's birthday is that weekend.  I plan to ride this Sunday, 7th,  to Nelson Mines though.

Is your bike the one with the 2 into 1 pipes ??
