Corbin Gambler on 2009 SERG
« on: July 10, 2009, 02:16:51 PM »

I received my Corbin seat.  I had them use what they call shark leather (it is regular leather but textured in a shark pattern)  on all the riding surfaces and smooth on the sides.  The shark matches the "buffalo" on the factory backrest almost perfectly.

Not bad for the shape, but can you get it with the 57 Chev pleats?

It fits great.  No gap at the front like the stock seat.  I also like the sharp rise right behind my butt.  Corbin seats are more firm than most and take some getting used to if you are not familiar with them, but I have had them on my last 3 bikes and I love the feel.  With a Corbin seat, I never get the "numb ass" feeling after 200 miles like I do with a stock HD seat.

The key lock is nice and works quite well for removal.  The latch pin on this seat screws into the rear seat mounting hole on the fender and the seat latches to that.  Installation instructions are on the Corbin site so you can see how it mounts.

I called Corbin to get some material samples and then ordered it directly from Corbin so I could specify the "Shark" texture on the riding surfaces.  Delivery took about 12 days because they make them to order if you specify custom leather.

No.  It feels like I am in about the same position front to back.  There is more of a feeling that I cannot slide back any from where I sit than with the stock seat.  That is because of the more vertical nature of the rise behind my butt.

I almost got the classic solo as well, but since I occasionally have a BSR, I would have had to buy the pillion as well, which would have run the price up over $700 plus I really do like the look of the Gambler on the SERG.

Smuuth,

Now that you've had the Gambler seat for a while... What do you think of it from a function / appearance /comfort point of view?  How does is compare to the stock seat?  Thanks in advance.

Greg:
I love it.  Although I admit to a positive prejudice toward Corbin from past experience, I can honestly say this seat is worlds above the stock seat for comfort.  Frankly, the stock seat with its gap at the console and overly-flexible seat pan is not even in the same class as to appearance and fit.  The quality leather and the texture that I had Corbin put on the contact surfaces just look much more classy.

Well worth every cent in my opinion.

I will have a better chance to further evaluate the rideability over the next week or so, I am leaving for Sturgis tomorrow.

 :)
