Redlining
« on: July 13, 2009, 09:36:42 PM »

I was wondering how often riders redline the RPM's on their bike.  I have to admit I love the feeling of opening up the throttle from a stop and taking the RPM's to the higher limit and shifting through the gears.  Of course, I am concerned about damage as I want to keep this bike for years.  Am I harming the bike?  I really only open it up to 4500+ and an occasional 5000+.

I've bumped my SERG up against the rev limiter more than once and my Road King (no tach) too many times to count (65000 hard miles and counting). Don't worry, you won't hurt your bike. The rev limiter is there to keep you from doing damage. I don't make it a practice to redline often on the SERG. Sometimes it just happens when ya ain't paying attention, ya know?  ::)

Fire it up , when there would be a damage then you complain at the dealer as long as the warranty is running , full fire whenever it is possible for minimum two years .  :2vrolijk_21:

If you hit the rev limit, then you're not redlining. I have adjusted my limiter way up so now I don't hit it. and yes, I have hit the real redline, the motor loves the higher rpms.

:'( Since the average stock 110  torque starts dropping away at 3500 rpm,  and the horsepower flattens not long after- what's the point of revving it up beyond 5000 rpm other than just thoroughly thrashing your motor?  :nixweiss:

Redlining-I thought that was a spray coating you had sprayed inside a rusty gas tank.    :cherry:

What did you adjust it to? How many RPMs can a 110 safely handle?

5500

Isn't that stock? If I'm not mistaken, the TTS map Steve sent me (Fullsac) set it to 6000.

Same here, LarryB. My 110 turns on the torque at 3500 RPM and just goes from there. My 110 pulls like a scalded dog (or is that a raped ape?) all the way up to 6000.

Stock redline is 5500. Check you tachometer. The lines and numbers turn red at 5500. The stock ECM rev limiter is set to 5500.

With the TTS Masterturne, you can change the rev limiter. Steve's map sets it to 6000 which is where mine is at the moment.

I redline her a couple of times a month getting on the freeway near my house. Not hard to do in 1st and maybe 2nd. Redlining in 3rd (or higher) is not recommended unless you want to risk a ticket with a pretty serious fine...

Just my $0.02 worth...

Talked with Troy and He said when we mastertuned my bike, we set it at 6000. Hard to tell for me, haven't hit it since we tuned it
