Once out of the bike remove the line from the pump to the filter and the filter itself.

And carefully worm it all back in the tank.  Install the line from the filter output to the bike.  Then several angles of approach once again to get it all twisted back inside.

Guess it was a good thing I saved these.  Couple months ago one of our group asked for pics of how to this got done so still had them around.

If you are not careful you will break the fuel pump - and that is more then a nuisance or so I have been told  :-[

I will plagiarize Don's picture for this tidbit

If you are not careful removing the hose from the pump you WILL break the small POS plastic nipple on the pump.

This isn't a big deal until you find out that a new pump will cost you $230 from a 20% dealer.

Don't ask me how I know  >:(

Ooooops.  Ok, so follow Duane's advice and do not break your fuel pump!

Those Oetiker type clamps are different than what we're commonly used to.  Used commonly for thin walled line in higher pressure applications (other places too, but that's a common usage).

You don't have to cut their full width all at once.  Start with a good pair of wire cutters and cut through the first 1/4th or so.  Twist the head a little.  Cut a little more.  Twist a little more.  Soon the top of the clamp will just snap off.

To reinstall that type of clamp there are expensive Oetiker clamp specific clamping tools.  Don't waste the money.  A pair of end nippers carefully applied and ten bucks from most any hardware store will do just fine.

Search ebay and you will find the pliers reasonable enough. I found a pair shipped for $18. And they are the pliers with the side crimp option.

Well, I didn't break the fuel pump but broke the nipple on the plastic piece that goes over the fuel pressure regulator (nipple).  Got off for less than $15..  Dealer had one in stock so I probably wasn't the first to break one as they don't stock anything.

Not much difference really.  There's an extra line inside the tank on the earlier bikes.  But it doesn't change what you're doing.  And rather than a cork gasket it's rubber.  Everything else is pretty much the same though.

A good thing to check while all that stuff is out of the tank is the remaining piece of fuel line that gets reused (filter to fuel tank fitting).  It hasn't been totally uncommon to get holes in that line from chafing against the tank or the various bits and pieces of the fuel pump & sending unit assembly.  Much better to catch and fix that now, versus having to tear it all apart a little later.
