107" Andrews 54 Dyno Chart! 105 HP!
« on: July 26, 2009, 12:17:13 PM »

Had another shocker in the dyno room Thursday. It was my first 107 "Super Sleeper". Basically a low budget 107" with cams.
09 RK non CVO.
I installed a 107" big bore kit in the stock barrels. Andrews 54 cams. Stock pushrods. Stock heads with 6 cc removed to lower comp to 9.8.
Stock non cat headpipe, Stock mufflers recored with my 2.0 cores. SE HB AC.
Thats it!

105 HP with 113 TQ with stock heads. Unbelievable. I told the customer to expect 96-98 HP. These 09 heads are good, really good.
Stock headpipe. There's more to it than meets the eye.
Bike feels just like a 110 CVO with more top end. Valve train is just as quiet as stock.

Somebody needs to bring me a CVO 110 for an Andrews 54 cam install and dyno. Who's ready to step it up a notch?

Are you looking for a guinea pig or are you convinced that the 54 will produce surprising #s in a CVO 110 as well?

I think its safe to say, an 09 CVO 110 making the average 95 HP with a non cat headpipe and high flow cores, will gain 5-8 HP with no loss in bottom end just bolting the 54s in and retuning. A little clean up on the heads, an .030 gasket and 1 HP per cube is surely possible. Here's a 107" with a 54 making 105 HP with stock heads. That's real close to 1 HP per cube. Not looking for a Guinea Pig, just a guy who wants to take the next step in a logical sequence for more performance. Might be the same guy who doesn't like getting passed by 107" Road Kings?

Steve,

Curious about the 107" big bore kit with stock barrels. Who makes this kit? Sounds like a really nice build. Wonder how those heads would perform on a 110?

I just installed S&S 585 cams in my 110 along with 58mm TB and some head work. Will dyno after break-in and report results. Perhaps by then you'll have a 110 with the Andrews 54 to compare.

Regards,
John

Hey John

The piston kit is by CP. I have them on the shelf. Retail is 299.00.
Less than a year ago, I read a news report in Hot Rod magazine that Joe Mondello, Legendary NHRA Prostock engine guru had been contracted by Harley to help out with production cylinder castings. I think we are seeing the results of Joes work on these 09 96" heads. I disassembled the heads with every intention of porting them and fixing any casting flaws ect. Hands down, these are the best production Harley heads I have ever seen. After opening the chambers slightly to drop compression, I hand lapped the valves and put them back together. Are these heads better than stock 09 110 CVO heads? Only one way to find out. We need to put a 54 in a 110 and see the numbers. No speculating, bike on the dyno, real results.

Those are pretty impressive numbers - a lot of bang-for-the-buck.  So you're saying the heads for the 96" are different between the 08's and 09's?

By the way, great job on my mufflers - they sound great and seem to help the motor breathe better.

Honestly can't say if the 08-09 heads are the same port configuration. 09s have a new front mount, different casting for sure.
Glad you like your mufflers!

Steve,

Is 9.8 the optimum CR for the 54H ina 107" build or would a little more compression make a little more HP?

Steve:  did you not already do this on a CVO 110?  According to this attached thread it shows the numbers on a CVO 110 as 102 HP and 120 TQ.  Your dyno run and all?  :nixweiss:

At 9.8, the cranking pressure was around 180. Easy starting,no pinging. I think 10-10.2 would still be tunable on 91 oct and make a few more.
