UPDATE 2/11: Cleaner Location for Highway Pegs?
« on: July 29, 2009, 05:40:57 PM »

This is subjective but I've never liked the look nor placement of pegs attached to the engine guard.  I wanted the pegs low.  Kuryakyn has introduced "Flip Blades," described and pictured below.  I've ordered a pair for the SERG but am told they may not be available until October.  They look like they will compliment the Rumble Collection floor boards. Kuryakyn says they should not change the lean angle (much?).  I've scraped the bottom rear of both floor boards several times.  Here is a synthesis of Kuryakyn's description:

These pegs bolt in place on the bottom of the Traditional (#7540) or Swept Wing (#7541) H-D footboard. When deployed, they fold out & lock into place, much like a pocket knife blade. A release lever allows them to return to their original, almost invisible position when not in use. A hinge allows them to fold up & back if cornering touch-down occurs.

7540   Fits: Traditional Boards - All '84-'09 Electra Glides (except '04-'05 FLHTCSE & '06-'09 FLHTCUSE), '84-'96 Tour Glides, '98-'09 Road Glides (except '09 FLTRSE), '94-'09 Road Kings (except '04-'07 FLHRS, '07-'08 FLHRSE) & all '86-'09 FLST Models (except '05-'09 FLSTN, '05-'06 FLSTFSE, '08-'09 FLSTSB, & '09 FLSTC) (pr)  $189.99

7541 Fits: Swept Wing Boards - '06-'09 Street Glides, '04-'07 FLHRS, '04-'05 FLHTCSE, '06-'09 FLHTCUSE, '07-'08 FLHRSE, '09 FLTRSE, or any H-D Model with Swept Wing shaped boards (pr)  $189.99

Any thoughts?  Comments?

I used another brand of the same style highway pegs on my SERK! PIA to pull out when on the bike. You better not be scrapin floorboards while these are extended. Not the greatest location for highway pegs and ya still need the crashbar mounted ones to stretch out. All in all, save your $$$! I removed mine. Wanna buy em? ;)

They look pretty cool but I'd want to know if they can be deployed and retracted easily while riding? I don't think I'd want 'em if I couldn't move 'em around while cruzin' along at 80.

See review in above post. Question is already answered! NO, not easily deployed! Retracting isn't bad once it's opened! :nixweiss:

I saw that but you answered the question for FBI pegs. Greg was asking about Kuryakyn. Might be the same but it can't hurt to check.

Be cool if they worked like switchblades... or those wheels on one of James Bonds' cars that deploy and shred the car next to it.

HeHe!!! That's actually what I was hoping when I bought them. Looks like the same chit! Not as convenient an option as I hoped they were! ;)

I bought the jack Knifes from FBI   , Need to grind out the foor board.       They are hard to pull out when riding and if when you stop you have your foot a little forward you acan hook your toe on it an maybe fall over. They are a nice extra position on long trips but not for town. Looks like the Kuryakyn are nicer looking .    Billy

You must have very short legs. Not going to help much for a guy like me with a 34" inseam.

I had something similar on my 06 Yamaha VStar Silverado and the setup was fantastic, since they were just an arm that you could attach your own highway pegs to.  I opted for a larger size peg, or mini floorbord, and I could easily keep my heel on the floorboard and toe on the highway peg, and it made for an extra very comfortable option.  On my SEUC though, I think I'll keep mine on the engine guard.

I was considering the jac-knife pegs, glad to hear your negative comments on them. My inseam is only 29-30.  What specific pegs mounted to the crash bars will put the pegs even with or a little behind the outer edge of the lowers?  I test drove a bike that had straight pegs, came out from the bars at a 90° angle and were in front of the lowers, and I couldn't reach them. I need some way to get my feet out in the air stream to cool them off.

Greg

I think you'll be wasting your money.

I have ridden a bike with the FBI type on, did not like. Very difficult to move out or in while riding.

I have mine very low on the highway bars so I can use them as more or less 3 position for my feet.
1. I can use the floorboards
2. I can use the floorboards for my heels and the highway bars for the rest of the foot (very comfortable)
3. I can use the highway bars all by themselves

Personally I think this is the most versatile way to use the highway bars. JMHO

Has anyone tried the Linbar or Twinbar Mustage bars by Linby Customs on a 2009 RG, they look like they would be nice for highway pegs.

Great comments gentlemen.  That's why I asked!  The Kuryakyns seem better designed than the FBI's but that is just an assessment from the photo.  They do have an additional hing to fold up if scraped in a turn.  I'll have to see them in the metal, so to speak.  Thank you all.  Hoist, don't be so wishy washy!  Tell us how you really feel!   :2vrolijk_21:
