My Red 05 SEEG Arrived Today DAMAGED
« on: December 06, 2005, 10:13:29 PM »

My supposedly pristine Red Cherrie arrived today from Chicago damaged. We all have had fears of E-Bay and the horror stories that occur to some. I myself have made many large ticket purchases this way and have had a few problems. This could have been worse and I will get into the details of the damage and ask my new friends (you guys) for some help if it comes to that.
I thought I did the right thing by sourcing this bike on E-Bay then after the auction ended I aproached the seller a Honda car dealer in Chicago. The bike was owned by the dealership the owner in fact. I had a buddy of mine check it out and he thought it looked good but said it was dusty and needed cleaning (He knew squat about Harleys). I really just wanted a good pair of eyes and I went by the sales mgrs. statements that there is not a scratch on it.
Well there was alot more than a scratch on it! Both lower fairings scraped up pretty bad the left much worse, left saddlebag badly chipped up on lower portion, mostly bottom under the black stripe. There are a couple other little things I can deal with but the ones mentioned NO WAY.
I hope they can do somthing here and the salesman is going to the owner and I sugested he have him admit that he dropped it in a gravel parking lot somewhere.
My question to you guys is I'm hearing that the MOCo will not give up any of this CVO paint for any reason except in the 1/2oz. touch up bottles. Is this true? I will need quite a few bottles if thats the case!
If you read Jeff's thread on his hunt for the same bike his story ended a little better than mine. He did the smarter thing by flying out himself to inspect it.
On the upside I drove it home from the drop off point in 40 degree weather and it did ride sweet.

Tim,

Sorry to hear about the issues you are dealing with. If it was mine I would notify Ebay and request the Honda Dealership Owner take care of of all the issues by sending in photos with issues to HD CVO so they know about the issues for paint and possibly fiberglass. Or if you know the local HD Dealer I would get him to take digital photos and send to HD CVO. You paid a premium price (I am assuming) and you expect a premium ride. be stern and have a plan.

I'm waiting for my contact to get back to me, he now has the pictures. They have their own body shop and if they work with me I'll let them attempt to fix the parts to my satisfaction. The guy was honest he said he never really looked at the botom part of the bike.
I'm hoping for the best, but if they try to screw with me I'll do whats necesary.
E-Bay can do nothing on purchases outside of their site.

Tim,
Sorry for the misfortune.  Be aware that while not necessarily easy the PPG paint codes haven't been totally inscrutable either.  When they've been needed in times past with a little effort guys have been able to come up with them.  Do a search here under "paint codes" or "PPG" and see what comes up.

If memory serves I think it was DCFireman who was the last to come up with some numbers.  You might PM him to ask what hoops it was he jumped through to come up with the paint codes and from whom he got them.

Good luck,
Don

If memory serves me right it was either DCFiremann or PJ57 that had a painter that had come up with the codes.

Tim, just looked up the parts you listed.  MSRP on all three is $1328.00.

The lowers are 58851-05BSC and 58852-05BSC at $400 each.  The left saddlebag bottom is 90654-05BSB at $528.00.

Rakeman, sorry to here about your problems.  :( When and if needed I have all the the PPG paint codes for the 05 Cherries, [smiley=cherry.gif] and have the formulas as well if needed. Getting it mixed at your local PPG dealer is the easiest way and matches dead on with correct number of coats. PM me if they are needed.
Thanks, Michael

That really sucks hearing about your damaged Cherry.   Have no fear you will overcome this and they are still faster than any of the others :)

The rear saddle bags are 1235.00 pumpkin painted from the motorcorp.   I don't have the price list infront of me, but I believe the cost of the front fairings are 400 plus the cap.

The paint can be mixed and matched by PPG its their original source.   The issue is going to be getting a good painter if you go down that route.  Lots claim to be experts not so many really are in the paint world.

Hey!  The paint isn't really a big prob if you have a good painter. (Just gotta get the right person to pay for it, right?)  It is a three layer process, so it's beyond me, and a lot of body guys, but a good custom painter shouldn't be overwhelmed.  My guy originally went with the #'s provided by PPG, and it was a crap match. (According to the rep, it's real loose control on the paint at the factory, so there are big differences in the paints from bike to bike.  (I can't see the differences, but Ed pointed them out to me...   much better eye than I)   He then went with another brand and got a dead on match for my '05 Cherry SEEG.  I still have paint for mine that I would share, and he can mix more if need be.  My painter is Ed Hubbs, owner, Full Blown Kustoms, ICN here in Eugene Oregon.  He loves the bikes and does real good work.  His Number is (541) 434-0224.   You may want to call him just to pick his brain.  Tell him I sent ya,(shannon johnson), and he'll treat you well.  Actaully, he'll treat you well anyway, he's a really good guy.  He did my front fender recently and it's a beautiful job...

BTW, DAWG's right, the cherry is the prettiest, and happens to be the fastest too, for some reason........   ::)

Thanks so much guys for feeling my pain and responding. My biggest concern was getting the paint. Now I know it's not that big of a problem. The larger issue is the right guy doing the job. I just got off the phone from my contact at the Honda dealership (he called me) and he had his body guy in the office who sourced the paint and they will do the job. He suposedly is a good painter but we all know there is not a Honda car on the road that looks as good as this red Cherrie. If ther are any special issues in applying the finish let me know so I can pass it on.
I'm hoping for the best and I'll keep you posted.

Ok, shouldn't this be like when you're in an accident (not your fault), and you want to pick your "own" painter (at there expense no less). Not to rain on your parade but I would have my concerns about sending it back to person I got it from (if that is in fact the case here) to do repairs, seems they were not truthful in the beginning (I remember you stating the add said "pristine condition") [smiley=nixweiss.gif] JMHO

Anyways good luck, hope things work out for you.
