What is it with all of us on this site, we drift around like Jim from Taxi. but we are on point here, sorta. My intent is to keep track of the wrecks, so we can help each other avoid buying one of these reconstituted monstrosities. My 03 SERK had $21,000 worth of damage. Most insurance companies total a vehicle when the cost to repair exceeds 70% of the value of the vehicle. State Farm valued my ride at just over 25K. The wreck sold for 7k at auction. Hmmmmmmmmm You all are right about the title thing, but the salvage guys will reconstitute a wreck into a "pre-owned" by cleaning the title up in a state that does let you re-title. California and a lot of states make you carry the salvage designation on the title, but there are states that don't, once you have the vehicle inspected by the State Police.FYI if you do wreck, make sure your insurance company pays you for a apples for apples match (accessories) if you find a replacement as well applicable state sales tax, any remaining Licensing fees, crating and shipping if you buy on-line and have to have it shipped AND the value of any remaining Extended warranty you have left. One last thing , a lot of insurance companies have a dollar value assigned to your accessories. I'm not in the insurance business, but State Farm pays "Replacement Value" as opposed to a Blue Book number etc. meaning you find a bike to replace yours with and that's what they'll pay including accessorising it to match what you wrecked. I got 38K when the dust settled for my 03 SERK.
