Totaled CVOs
« on: December 09, 2005, 05:53:23 PM »

The purpose of this thread is to track CVO models that have been wrecked beyond repair. Total loss as the insurace guys call em. As I mentioned elsewhere. I totaled out an 03 SERK this year as did a buddy in Mississippi. so we're down to 3,198 03-SERKs.

I may be wrong but, The hd-com site states that there were 3600 03 serks built. And to add in on your tracking, A friend of mine had his stolen last fall, and not recovered.

One thing to remember is this are approx. numbers we have tried to get real numbers (how many built, testbikes, demos) but as usual they are very quiet with these things.  Good luck though.

Not sure how this will figure into your numbers but you can buy totaled bikes, rebuild them, get them inspected, and they are then titled in Ohio as a rebuilt whatever year/make. So a totaled 2004 FLHTCSEI would be titled as a Rebuilt 2004 FLHTCSEI with the same VIN number.. al

Well, actually its called a "salvage title"  and it can not ever be change to a regular title. So if you ever tried to sell it..the buyer would know that something really , really bad had happened.

What I had in mind by saying something "really, really bad" was pertaing to a salvage title on an 04-05 SEEG. For an insurance company to total a year old $30,000.00 bike....something really bad happened.

With the cost of those CVO parts, it wouldn't take too many of 'em to total the bike.  :o Har!  spyder [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

What is it with all of us on this site, we drift around like Jim from Taxi. but we are on point here, sorta. My intent is to keep track of the wrecks, so we can help each other avoid buying one of these reconstituted monstrosities. My 03 SERK had $21,000 worth of damage. Most insurance companies total a vehicle when the cost to repair exceeds 70% of the value of the vehicle. State Farm valued my ride at just over 25K. The wreck sold for 7k at auction. Hmmmmmmmmm You all are right about the title thing, but the salvage guys will reconstitute a wreck into a "pre-owned" by cleaning the title up in a state that does let you re-title. California and a lot of states make you carry the salvage designation on the title, but there are states that don't, once you have the vehicle inspected by the State Police.FYI if you do wreck, make sure your insurance company pays you for a apples for apples match (accessories) if you find a replacement as well applicable state sales tax, any remaining Licensing fees, crating and shipping if you buy on-line and have to have it shipped AND the value of any remaining Extended warranty you have left. One last thing , a lot of insurance companies have a dollar value assigned to your accessories. I'm not in the insurance business, but State Farm pays "Replacement Value" as opposed to a Blue Book number etc. meaning you find a bike to replace yours with and that's what they'll pay including accessorising it to match what you wrecked. I got 38K when the dust settled for my 03 SERK.
