DEER SLAYER RIDE THROUGH THE CA / NV SIERRA NEVADA 10/8-11
« on: October 13, 2009, 07:32:42 PM »

I was lucky enough to be invited on the 12th annual Deer Slayer Ride.  A different route is planned each year.  This year’s ride was a four day trip through the California and Nevada Sierra Nevada Mountains.  October 8 - 11, 2009.

Thursday began with a chilly 7:00 a.m. meeting for breakfast in Valencia, CA.  Four CVO's and three other impressive touring bikes:

After a hearty breakfast, it was up Interstate 5, over the Grapevine to CA 99.  First stop, Bakersfield Harly Davidson at their new location.

Only one CVO, a FatBob. But there were a couple of interesting sights:

Up the 99, then east on the 198.  Coffee was catching up with us but there were plenty of trees:

As we turned off the 99 we saw a couple of impressive fire fighting planes:

198 east to the 245 north.  The 245 was a spectacular ride!

In Bager, along the 245, we stumbled into Sister's Mountain House.  Great, friendly service and casual food.

Patio dining on a beautiful CA day.  Some of us lurked in the shadow.

We took the back way towards Bass Lake and stopped in North Fork.  Here is a wall tribute to the town's war casualties.
