Scott, might have missed it, but were those Cycle-Rama cams? Over all how do you like the Cycle-Rama setup your running?

Yes, they are Cycle Rama cams.  Overall, I am very satisfied, particularly with the cylinder heads...  The cams produced great bottom end torque, but if there is a negative to them, it is the aggressive ramps, which is part of the price you pay for the low end power...

That torque curve is nice, jumps up and stays high all the way through the rpm range. Must pull well off the line! That wear looks excessive for as few miles as you have on them.

I'm just going to replace them.  The question is with what..  I have another set of the very same cams on the shelf.  Or, I may try something else - something with less aggressive ramps.  I'm not sure, but am considering:

I have a stock 110 w/Woods TW7H.
This combination produced 108/109T
Those are not big numbers but the torque line goes over 100 ft. lbs. at 2300 rpm and it stays above a 100 till 5700.
The 09 SEUC is a heavy puppy and having over a hundred ft. lbs. at 2300 moves it very well.

Wow, cool tread! Just caught it! Thanks for the heads up Scott! You got good wear out of it, but I'd replace the cams now. I think S&S makes cams for hyd. chain drive now. Not sure but check. The 585 is excellent with our motor package. You won't be disappointed. I left the Comp Ratio  and Wes' heads alone, used the S&S lifters you use, and put the 585G's in. I'm very happy with the way it runs now. even though it's much calmer than before. Got over 15K on this motor already!

I didn't do the tear down you did Scott but I did just get to do an up close and personal combustion chamber inspection.  Had the teeniest little oil leak on the back head of the red bike so when I got back here after a dinner at McDonalds it got torn apart.  Heads back on now along with the rocker box and will finish buttoning the ancillary stuff back down tomorrow night or Saturday.

Nice clean piston and head.  Everything there looked very very nice.  Couldn't have been more pleased plus also got to confirm absolutely no rubs on the pushrods or rocker assemblies (popped off both to take a look).

While was standing there spinning wrenches a thought came to mind.  Don't know why.  Must have been a kindred spirit floating by.  Wondered if you changed cams if you'd try to vist Golden or go a different way with the tune?

If your lifters have 10K+ miles, I am very interested in the condition of the tappet roller bearings. If you are replacing the lifters would you mind disassembling the tappet rollers and posting photographs of the bearing rollers and races? I am most interested in the load bearing surface of the rear intake lifter axle pin.

If you are not replacing the lifters, would you mind cleaning the roller area of the tappet with an aerosol solvent like a brake cleaner and follow-up with compressed air, then check the roller by hand for smooth operation? Compare the rear intake, then the front with either exhaust tappet and report back your findings.

My sense is that you don’t pound on your machine very hard, but how frequently do you take the engine to 6k RPM or higher?

6k of higher...almost never.  Probably not a handful of times ever.

I'm not going planning to replace the lifters unless necessary.  I plan to clean and check them - as you suggested.  I will report back.  And if I replace them, I'll disassemble and photograph the pieces...

That might be more difficult to arrange than in years past Scott.  At least during this past year John and Sandy have said they'll be spending much less time on the road from now on out.  Sturgis probably.  Likely not nearly so much travel for them though.
