I just call mine...Baldy. And as far as 'over-the-top'.... think back to the year 1999, when the original was introduced.
Have shared that thought more than once. The CVO FXR bikes pre-2000 were nicely adorned but no special graphics. And the rest of the model lines? Two colors on the same bike was considered fancy. I think some of the Shriner bikes had used a pearl white by then. But there was nothing to jump out at anyone. Compared to the standards of the day the 2000 SERGs were a huge departure. Bling with a capital B.
They didn't something else then that they've settled away from more recently too. The SERGs were a look all their own. Following them the FLHRSEI and FLHRSEI2 bikes were also stunners for their day (and still are) but were looks all their own too. No repetitive indulgence to or reliance on the SERG that had come before. They didn't get sylistically lazy.
The SERGs and SERKs begat the SEEGs in 04 and 05. Another pair of stunners. Another pair with a look all their own that didn't harken back to what had come before. And after the SEEGs......
After the SEEGs have been some excellent looking SEUCs. But they've all been homage to the look that was the SEEG. Variations on the theme. It's as if three great looking ideas were all they could muster. Once that was done it's been recooking the same cake with different colors and accents.
