Brad something got in there and was moving around. That wear you call it is a gouge. Have you cut the oil filter open? It maybe a defective tennionser but I would look around to be sure.
Agreed. Looks as if a piece of debris rode along on the chain for a few laps, dug the single trench gouge, then worked free and went where ever.
Something to consider. The new chain tensioners are hydraulic. A stiffer oil bypass spring that raises oil pressure also increases pressure on the tensioners.
Good point. Another reason when a guy asks me if he should run the stiffer bypass spring or shim with the updated late model pump, I always suggest no. Also, there is a tiny check/relief valve in the tensioner piston. Very small orifice. Continuous excessive pressure would be a detriment on proper pad to chain tension IMO.
I have taken many of the hydro camplates out with more, way more miles than yours. And have not seen this before, lite chain marks is all I ever see. Cannot understand yours. Did an 06 dyna with 60,000 miles on it with hardly any wear. Doc
Same here. Have not been in the camchest on one with 60, but have with 50, and same finding. Merely witness marks only on the pads. Pad material discoloration (darkening) is normal.
