Interesting.  I had a very difficult time using the Sears jack.  I usually immediately put it on a dolly for service, that jack is a bit wobbly.

I needed to use the supplied adapters to clear the kickstand in either up or down position.
The adapater caused the jack not to fit under the bike.  This made me have to use two 2x6 blocks cut at an angle to roll the bike up on (one for each tire) then the jack fir under.

I was thinking of relocating the kickstand to the swing arm pivot point with the Arlen Ness kickstand.  It just seems hard to each that far back and I 've never really trusted aftermarket kickstands til I saw one break in half in front of my buddies shop, it was a brand new softail.

What am I doing wrong?

Most standard floor jacks require the use of the Dyna service adapters, little plastic clip ons. ok for lifting but I use it to set the bike on an adjustable cart to work on. kinda teetery.
For service work I use the pitbull, they have one made for the bike and a very stable platform for all service work.

Regarding the Sears jack...it is sometimes a bit tricky to use because of the FXR sidestand. Because of this you're really only able to lift one end of the motorcycle at a time securely. For example lifting the rear of the machine I angle the jack in on the left side between the rear tire and sidestand. For the front I just place the jack in front of the sidestand. I make sure that it is lifting securely on the applicable frame rails and use the tie down straps that came with the jack too for security. For the money it has served most all my needs of service to the bike.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950191000P

problem with that jack is the cross member in the front part of the jack hit/rest on the sidestand on the bike.  I've had my bike up on one of those, and didn't care for it .... but I do like that jack.

I have the red sears one, I know a lot of guys don't, but I've not had a problem with mine.

All I do is put the jack on the right side of the bike, align it up so that the left jack member is just behind the sidestand, sit on the bike, stand the bike up, use my foot and drag the jack the rest of the way under the bike.  I can reach the jack pedle with my foot, I give it a couple of jacks to get it tight under the bike, get off the bike, check the postion of the jack, make sure it it under both frame side rails, jack it up, apply the tie downs, no problems.

I know some say the bike is not stable on this jack, mine seems fine to me.  Once the tiedowns are on, I've moved the bike around in the shop, no problems ...NOT jacked all the way up, but certainly up off the ground and fully on the jack.

the red craftsman jack does not need those adapters for the FXR4, matter of fact, I find that you can't even use them unless you build a platform to run your bike up on so you can get the jack under it .... worthless, and certainly not worth the trouble.

Pitbull,  GREAT JACK !!!!!

I use the same method as fxr4mikey.  Bike's completely stable, even without tiedowns. :2vrolijk_21:

It is the crossmember that causes the issue with the jiffy stand with the aluminum jack from Sears.  I use the adapter Sears provided, but as Mikey said, I run the bike up on a 2x10 block under both wheels to get the clearance need for the jack.
When I move, I'm getting a real lift and ending this BS.

I have a Pitbull...and they make one that fits FXR's

Well constructed and the bike is rock solid when up on it....not cheap...but neither is your bike.

Also heard great things aobut J&S jacks, but I chose Pitbull becuase it goes up 25" and the J&S stops at 18"
