Where is the wiring harness that connects the tour pak light
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:36:36 PM »

I have a 2009 FLTRSE3  and am trying to hook up the light bar on the tour pak.  In pre 2009 models the wiring harness was tucked in and wire tied on the left side of the bike.  All you had to do was cut the wire tie and it was long enough to reach to the tour pak.   I couldn't find it on my 2009.  I did find 3 unused connectors under the left side cover. However, none were long enough to reach to the tour pak.

The 09 SERG does not have a long wiring harness tucked under the left cover, just a short pigtail.

You will need to but an extension (if Mo-Co makes one) or make your own extension. I cut the connector off the tour-pak wiring harness and used that to connect to the pigtail under the left cover. Just need to extend the wires.

Ok so I am not blind. Good to know.  Did you have any problems once connected given the 2009 fltrse3 has the led taillights and the tour pak lights are bulbs?

No problems everything worked fine with the normal bulbs.

I have since switched to large LED's in the tour-pak and will be converting those tour-pak lights to signals as soon as I get my Sreamin Eagle third brake light finished.

I did the mod today by cutting off the Deutsch connector under the left side cover, lengthening the 3 wires, and reattaching the plug.  The black wire provided power for the running lights in the tour pak.  The red activated the brakes.  What is the third wire used for?  Is there a way to hook up the turn signals?  I could leave well enough alone ;)

I'm not sure but I believe it was a grond wire.

I am making a third brake light "Screamin Eagle" lettering of the back of my tour-pak. When I install that, I'm going to switch the tour-pak lights from run/brake to run/signal. My 09 SERG has seperate wires under the seat that I will have to splice into for the tour-pak signals.

Funny !

I knew it was coming, and I fully intend to share the results .................. as long as I don't screw up my tour-pak and my light bar !!

The easiest way to ensure you never make a mistake is to not do anything, or, never do something that is new!

You never know, others may like my idea and do the same. I would be flattered.

I'll see what photos I can take that may help you. I am not finished yet as my SERG is going to my painter for a couple custom touches. If you look at my Avatar, you will see that I left the light bar on my tour-pak black. It is going to get ghost flames like the black accent on the bike. I need that done before I can finish my third brake light.

Here is a couple

First is blank prismatic material. This is available from Hytech products, Custom Dynamics and others. You can get 2 prismatic lenses out of 1 - 12" by 12" sheet if you are careful.

Lens cut out and covered with tint material. Cost 5 bucks at a window tint shop! I comes very close to matcking the smoke lenses I bought for my tour-pak.

Cover plate over prismatic lens. 316SS slightly polished. Forgot to add that the plate is 30 thousands thick, cut by laser.
