here is the deal go with suspension technologies i have had all diff shocks on the serg and no shock works as great as ST. here is the deal thou you gotta get off the 12inch shock and go 13. you would not believe the diff. i was gonna sell this bike after a year of being beat up and bad bad bottoming out.
i have seen some bikes were the swing arm hits the frame thats how bad it gets. dont be fooled 13 inch shocks is the only way to go. i have 22thousand miles on mine and the firsat 15 thousand were terrible hard miles. my back and neck were in so much pain and this is a bagger touring bike were talking about. but with the new shocks i am in heaven
OK, here's the deal.......
Had my 12.5" 440's on the '09 and about 30k miles on them. They worked fine except for about 20k of those miles 2-up, loaded, towing a 400lb trailer. They would bottom out pretty easily. Had the Heavy Duty springs, btw.
I had NO issues with these in the 12.5" and my 13" shocks on 2 of my bikes. I liked the ride. Customer service was outstanding. ( I blew out a seal last summer, they rebuilt the shocks, no question asked!).
I now have a pair of Works, custom built for me and my load. Riding solo, these ride just as nice (or nicer) as the 440's.
I had them tuned them a couple of times 'till I was satisfied. Haven't ridden 2-up yet, or with the trailer, so, jury's still out right now. I like 'em!
Be aware that the '09 and '10 have different rate front fork springs, (145lb vs. 120lb) and if you use heavier fork oil (SE and the like), your bike will ride harsher than the stock oil. This affects the overall ride quality. I found this out the hard way, and going back to light weight fork oil.
I have not tried the other shocks on the market, but, gotta say the Works will build whatever you want. They will change dampening, springs, preload, whatever.
But, IMHO, you can't go wrong with the 440's for "normal" loads.
