Adding chrome rails around the saddlebags"?
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:53:34 PM »

Just put a deposit down on a 2010 SE Ultra and see a mod I'd like to do some checking on. Really like the wrap around rails that go around my saddlebags on my 09 Ultra. Wondering if anyone know if these could be put on my SE. Like the looks and protection for the paint. Looks like the existing chrome grab bar at the front of the bags would also be replaced as thats where the rails bolt into. Anyone here have done this and a idea as to what price I'm looking at? Thanks

Yes, it can be easily done.  Just keep watching on Ebay for the front guard and wrap around rails as they are on there all of the time for 09-10's..

You may even be lucky enough to trade yours (front guards) with someone wanting to go the way you have now.

Shoot, mind if I ask what you ended up getting for the rails and did it include the front grab bar. Boy, never thought of ebay and buy a ton from there.

They are $319 new from HD.  I got $250 on EBay, complete all parts & bolts.  Including the crash bars

I have an extra set from a 2000 if they fit. I took the 2 piece off mine and put the Road Glide 1 piece on for the wife's comfort, put the 2 piece on a friends and have his full set in the garage if wanted.

The filler strips between rear fender & hard boxes wont fitwith the rails . But you can buy slotted strips that will let you fit the rails.

The nostalgic bars will connect to the standard cvo chrome bar. If you want twin rails as on non cvo ultra you will have to purchase the full kit as the bars are drilled/countersunt for the screws.

Cyril, just found them on the HD site, part number 91179-10. That pic you posted with them on, is that your bike and is it a SE Ultra? If it is, was the kit all you needed to install them? Thanks Dan

Cyril, another question ... did you have to modify the filler strips between the bags and fender struts to mount the chrome rails?

Yes its my 09 SEUC you only need the nostalgic bars they dont hide so much paint. The reflector was on the grab bar so i removed it first because it was in the way anyhow the nostalia bar clamps around the grab bar but tha filler strip wont let you fix the other end i guese its possible to modify the filler but its a big chunk to cut out & i changed mine for chrome ones i will post a picture of fillers later today. The up to 08 & 09 on fillers are totally different.
this picture is the 08 i traded for the 09
