Personnel Watercraft opinions
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:28:43 PM »

Was at a boat show this weekend.  Saw real good prices on new 2007 Honda Aquatrax F-12.    Any opinions on Honda boats.  Used to own a Sea-doo and loved it but I don;t know anything about the Hondas.  I would imagine they are good quality, but since Harley doesn't make a boat....

Any help?

As the AD says "Honda makes great lawn mowers".

I'd say stick with Sea-doo for a real water craft.

Unless of course you're considering something a little bigger, then I would go with a Hatteras,
but no bigger than 55' with today's fuel prices!  ;D

Check out Personal Watercraft Illustrated magazine.  They have the 2010 buyers guide.

I had a Seadoo GSX 2-person and a Seadoo GTX 3-person.  They both went about 50-55 mph almost ten years ago.  The 2-person would fly through the air and the 3-person would cut through the rough water.  I would take both out on the San Francisco Bay fearlessly. Never had a problem with either of the Seadoos and my brother still skis on them to this date. (12 years apx.)  Sold them  and bought a boat so we could socialize more with our friends.  Sold the money pit (boat) ;D :D :) and bought a Road King last year. :)

Yamaha was also putting out kickaas at that time. Kawasaki was there but wasn't winning the PWC mags shootouts at that time.  Last I heard Honda was an up-and-comer and hope to find out here from somebody.

Many lakes and reservoirs are forbidding the 2-stroke engines. (Lake Tahoe and some other CA lakes.)  They do allow 4-stroke and I've heard but don't know that they are good???  CA you have to be 16 to operate a PWC alone.  They were also thinking of implementing a boating course for all born Jan. 01, 1960 and after. Don't know where it is!!

My opinion on personal watercraft is not fit to be printed!  ;)

We live on a small lake, and all summer long for ten hours a day, brain-dead morons from the vacation trailer park on the opposite shore to us drive everyone crazy by riding the things round in little circles all day, and the only noise we hear (the surrounding hills make this a wonderful accoustic "bowl") from dawn till dusk is these darn things going tha-dump, tha-dump, tha-dump...........

Now if I took my Harley and followed these folks home on a Sunday, and rode round outside their house all day, in little circles, they wouldn't like it, so why should they think it's OK to do the same to us that live here?

In fact, I'm sure I'd find these things fun, for oh, at least ten minutes, but how these idiots can do it for ten hours a day, two days a week, all summer long leads me to think that, well, how shall I put it..... the wheel is turning, but the hamster's dead.

I'm sure they are great for the sea, but there's no question in my mind - they should be summarily banned from inland waterways.

(Just my 2 cents worth.....)

Your lake is probably considered a public recreation area and the public is recreating.  Many people think it's sad that people use the lakes for polluting machines (noise and chemical), that takes away the beauty.  Others think it's a shame that people screw up the beauty of the lakeshore and pollute the waters with their home chemicals by building lakefront properties/homes with lush lawns and boat docks. (Search Lake Tahoe for studied facts) We have the homeowners in the states who think they should have the public lakes exclusively for themselves as well.  I also like the boaters who store their boats at the permanent 100 plus boat marinas complaining that PWCs and smaller boats are ugly.  Yellowstone has snowmobilers, Yosemite gets complaints from campers that there are too many campers.  I hate train horns, traffic, farm smells and dust, rock quarries, timber cutting, big buildings, Bart, airplanes, Lakes that ruined Rivers, slow drivers, fast drivers, loud music, rap music, baggy jeans that show boxers, younger people, older people, white, red, yellow, black, brown, tall, short, fat, skinny, perfect, ugly, beautiful and all people not exactly like me, flatulence and THE MOST ANNOYING PERSON TO ME IS ME!

Is it really surfing if you get towed to the big waves on a PWC versus paddling out on your own.

The world has too many people to not get along and life is too short not to find the good things (custom exhaust) and ignore the bad (stock anything).

So seeing something/someone you don't care for and accelerating towards it to more further enjoy the tempestuous feel and glorious sounds of impact are not really what you're advocating up there ^ ?

You could do that, but in the end you may find the final impact only hurts yourself.

How deep is that thought???

I have no problem with people enjoying a beautiful spot for public recreation. (See it at http://tinyurl.com/yzs356o ) I love to watch the sailing boats, and the fishermen, and I don't even have much problem with sensibly driven motor boats.  But these stupid things that go round and round in little circles for ten hours a day, going tha-dump, tha-dump, tha-dump, drive me - and many others - nuts.  There's no place for these contraptions on inland waterways.  Anybody who can do the little circles for ten hours a day is at the lower end of the human spectrum, verging on plant life!

(Just an additional 2c worth!)

Jim,

Beautiful Lake.  I would get bored just riding PWC there for 1-hour, unless there were Scottish sunbathing beauties wanting more excitement than a towel!  Lots of small lakes here are counterclockwise direction and 35-mph max.  Too boring.  Be like riding the Road Glide around the Mall all day.

When riding don't "Sweat the Petty Things" and don't "Pet the Sweaty Things". (Too many cell phone cameras)

Don.

Buying used PWCs can be good. Those red ones with the trailer included look pretty hot. Can't tell what make and model, horse power, speed etc.
