Speaking of bars, coming from an 07 SERK, these seem to "flex" a bit especially in slow speed turns, 1" bars versus 1.25" ?  The position is perfect for me, just don't like the flex.  Is it possible to go to a meatier bar ?

The other thing I didn't like was the passenger floorboards, the "adjustable" mount put the boards a good three inches or more further forward than normal when the boards are set at the lowest position, that gave my legs a LOT less room for maneuvering when backing the bike up or rolling to a stop, I changed them to a straight mount and SOOO much better now  :2vrolijk_21:

Absolutely love this bike, far more than I thought I was going to, now the big decision each day is, which one am I going to get on in the morning  ::)

Mr_Ed after riding half the day with a friend on the back i see what you are talking about with the floor board. i will be changeing mine also. as for the bars my RK has chubbies which were 1in at the clamps and controls but were 1.25 everywhere else with a 12in rise and are 36in tip to tip, and it is much easyer to turn at slow speeds and at full lock.

I picked up my Black Beauty May 29th but had to have someone drive it to my local dealers to get it lowered front and back  before I could ride it. It's been agonizing waiting for it .  I also had them put in the hidden antennae since the fairing was open to put on pull back handlebars. They bring them back 2 inches (supposedly), but they are wider than stock, which will make full lock turns more difficult. (If I ever learn to do that)  Well, I picked it up and rode it for the first time yesterday.

Tomorrow I go to my Rider Skills class for slow speed work.   I find that the Harley is definitely easier to turn and lean the bike than my VTX. The most difficult thing for me is the weight, especially in parking situations.  I just found out Baker transmissions has a  reverse gear they can put on my bike. I'm going to call Monday and schedule for that to be done.   It's ok when I'm on flat grade, but I cannot move that bike one inch if theres anything resembling a bump.  I hate to do it, but it's the only practical solution for me to not always be worried about being alone and getting into a position I cannot handle.

That being said, WOW, do I love that bike . It's so nice with all the toys and I just love that paint job!  Awesome handling.  I want to take off the tour pak because I think its so cool looking without it, but I can't . I just love all that storage.  Darn.

Also, when I picked up the bike, I found a scatch on the frame between the fuel tank and the portion of the inner fairing which houses the ignition switch. The windshield has "rough edges" as well. It has to be fixed, but it's going to be hard giving that bike up for any length of time!

Thanks for writing that, makes me feel sooo much better about the weight of the bike, and the handlebars!. I'm not alone. Being 5"4' and a little over 100 lbs, that bike does feel waaay big. Only been riding 6 months, too, so I'm not as skilled as all you guys. I feel better you have the same issues. I did the same thing...rode til it poured rain and got dark......like a kid that didn't want to go home!

That can be done.... and it might just make the bike easier to handle for you. The KTP adds extra weight behind and up high on the bike.... removing it might make the bike easier to maneuver for you. :nixweiss: Take a look at this thread and you'll find links to many threads regarding tour pak removal.

It's not that I find it hard to turn, I actually really like the stock position (height-reach-all that stuff), it's the "flex" I feel in the bars I don't like, mostly transmitted at slow speed turns (under 5 mph).  Heck, when the bike is on the stand and fired up, the one bar flaps around so much it looks like it might just fly off lol.  The stock bars on my SERK are far beefier than these and that's what I'm used to.  They addressed the flex with the new frame, and after having an 03 Ultra all I can say is WOW, great job, that was one of the big reasons I sold that bike within weeks of buying it, couldn't handle the snakey feeling going down the road and especially in turns.  Now if I could just get it out of the bars.  Anyone have any ideas ?
