How many members have or now work/own a Harley dealership? Would you work for one if given the opportunity?

Kicking around retiring this year and moving to Fort Meyers Forida, would like to do a stint at the dealer there or in Marco.

I'm thinking of retiring and working part time for a local HD dealership. I just not sure if it's a good idea to mix business & pleasure.

I think it depends on the dealership...  I have several semi retired friends that work part time at local dealerships....they like it a lot.

Kinda the same thing I was thinking... every payday instead of a check I would get a bill. :D :D

It's just me but I don't like to crap where I eat. I've got a great relationship w/ the dealership and don't want to worry about the crap that goes w/ working w/ an organization. They'd probably want me to show up, be on time, smile all the time, be polite to azzholes, etc. Plus, the busy time is riding time. Sure wouldn't want to cut into riding for work.

You joke about this but Trudy worked for 2 HD Dealerships in between real jobs and even with the great discounts they get she pretty much got a bill every two weeks instead of a check.

Trust me, according to my wife, who did a couple yrs with a dealer, there are ups & downs, but mostly there are downsides to working for dealers.

I'm well adjusted to the ups and downs, I've been in the commercial truck business for 25+ years.

Do the dealerships offer benefits to part-timers? I'm close enough to retirement that I don't need much cash, but do need health insurance.

Its difficult to get benefits as a full time employee let alone a part time.

I would love to work at a dealership if I didn't have to work a real job  :o
But like some have said it does cut into your ride time  :nervous:

Worked at a hard core bike shop years ago as a wrench, back when most HD shops were just hole-in-the-wall shops, not sure I'd do it again even at a dealership today. We used to have a saying,With Bikers they will bring it in today, want it done yesterday, and want to know if they can pay you tomorrow.
