As I told many folks I worked with, I see no sense at all in retiring just so I can take another job. Most that do so wind up working for peanuts compared to what they earned on their prior job, get no benefits, and tend to be the first to go if their new employer decides to retrench. If you still need the money, don't retire.
On the other hand, if you've retired and then find you're bored silly, taking a part time job can literally be a life saver. I've known many folks over the years that jumped on early retirement without thinking it through and then found they were miserable. A lot of them didn't live too long, and I really think part of the cause was losing the sense of purpose that the job gave them.
Personally, I've been retired three years now and have had no desire to seek employment. If that changes, I'll be looking for something a lot better than working at a Harley shop. If you guys promise not to steal my idea, I'll tell you my plan.
