Radar detectors are as useful as tits on a boar hog.  The new systems the "bad" guys have today can measure the velocity of a flee fart from 1000 meters.  By the time the buzzer and little red light get your attention,  your busted (and then in some states you get a ticket for the detector) (they are also using Laser detectors now in a lot of states). Best advice is keep your eyes open and be civil around towns and cities (Go nuts on the open road in between...I mean that's why we do this isn't it).  I would also recomend a good touring seat,  I have a 05 SEEG Cherry Bomb and the seat that the Moco put on it leaves a lot to be desired.  They cut the stock seats last year to 13 inches across (which is great for shorter riders,  but kills us big guys), and after the first 500 miles or so,  your gonna wish you bought something a little wider.  Can't comment on the GPS,  but will watch the thread.....I'd like one too.

BTW,
When you get close to San Diego,  give me a yell (or at least let me know your coming,  we'll hook up and have a beer)

I have a radio/intercom from JMCorp on both my bikes.  Drawback is that a headset is required.

www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=24

AM/FM and Satellite com thru as well.  The intercom is open mic but when on CB, radio and XM are cut out.

You may want to look at this site for a custom made comfortable seat. www.day-long.com

When you get toward Kanas, southern colorado, wyoming etc think about buying a 1 gallon gas can and bungy cording it to the scoot. There is alot of distance between fillups depending on what routes you take.  Good rain gear.  I went up  pikes peak in august and it hailed 4 inches. Stuck 3 hours because of it, they had to plow the parking lot and the road down.

Bad Dog

Well, on a similar trip, I found after day-in/day-out riding, that just adding a nice thick sheepskin on top of my leather seat did wonders to the old sore tail.  Just remember to buy a few strips of rawhide to tie it down or it'll blow away up in the mountains when you stop.  You could maybe get by w/ the stock seat by trying that.  Much better than a solo seat on a hardtail.  Har!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] spyder

Holy mackeral!  I didn't realize that I was going to get into situations where I (we) might need gas for long dry spells!  Thanks to your feedback I looked up the Garmin 2730 and it looks like they have the trip planner (similar to the Magellan) where I can locate gas stations along the trip.

Radio info looks good also.
