Stock fuel map
« on: April 02, 2010, 01:01:07 PM »

I did the Fullsac 1.75 baffles and installed Steve's map and the TTS tune.  I saved the factory map.  My question for those in the know is this:  The factory map is an MTE file which is not supported by the TTS software.  Mr. Wizard informed me that this is because it is the intellectual property of the Mo Co.
If someone had to reload the factory map into the ECM, how would you do it?

With the TTS you just use "restore factory calibration" button, or Ctrl+R

Sounds simple enough.  Hope I never have to do it.
Thanks Lonewolf

Just out of curiosity and believe me I'm not real computer literate but..  When you save the  factory map, I'm assuming that it's saved to the Master Tune program but it doesn't show up in the Big Twin files.  Is that the Mo Co's way of protecting their property? You can restore the factory settings but you can't access it?

Try this search of your computer:

*.MTE

This should find it for you.

If you did save the stock calibration a folder will be in your tuning file window that says ''UPLOAD''.......put your curser on the folder and it will show you whats inside....it won't open but it will tell you that it is in there.
When you go to restore the map it will show up for you to click on it.

Thanks Doc.  Can that file be copied and moved to another computer?  I had to use my son's computer to download the factory map and you know how it is with kid's computers.

At the risk of being a pain....I as able to move it to another computer but when I try to load it into Master Tune I get a message that the file is not supported by Master Tune.  If I needed to download it back into the ECM for whatever reason and something happened to the kid's computer, how would I do it?
Thanks in advance.

Just about anything you want to do with TTS is in the "help" files.........
Example:

MasterTune-HD allows Saving and Restoring of any calibration that is in the ECM.  Save and Restore files are saved in an encrypted 'MTE" file format and are only usable by the Save and Restore feature.
For reference, the terms "Upload" and "Save" may be used interchangeably in this document.  Technically, Uploading is the process of transferring data from the ECM to the PC where it is then Saved to a file.
It is suggested that the vehicle have the original code uploaded and saved prior to reprogramming with custom code.  This allows restoring the vehicle to "stock" at a later time if desired.  Note that MTE files cannot be edited by MasterTune-HD; these can be used only to restore calibrations to the same vehicle that the code was uploaded from or sent to TTS to develop new MT7 calibration files.
Note that the interface locking (marriage) function is not used during save and restore operations, allowing the user to save and restore the calibration on any H-D vehicle.   However, a MTE file can only restore to the same vehicle that the code was uploaded from.

In addition to what Doc said!

Hope this helps a bit. :2vrolijk_21:

I'm not  doing a very good job of explaining my question.  I understand that the factory map can be restored to the ECM.  I uploaded the factory map to computer #1.  I want to back  it up to computer #2.  I have copied the map and it is in a file folder in computer #2 but I can't load it into the Master Tune program on Computer #2.  If computer #1 crashes and all the data is lost, how could you restore the factory map if you had to from computer #2?

If you copied the files to Computer#2 you are good.  It has been stored and saved for backup purposes.  Are you saying you have tried to reload the original files back into ECM and it does not work?  You cannot load the file to Mastertune and look at it.  Is that what you are asking?

I have some maps including the MTE file on a thumb drive, which would be the same as any other drive on any computer. I keep that with the bike when I do long trips, just in case some dealer wants to see the "oem" map before he does any warranty work!
Never had to use it, but, I DID change some tables in one of my tunes last summer, just to deal with different conditions.
I would think any computer drive you have that file on would work just fine as long as you have the proper interface matching your VIN on your bike.
Never heard of anyone having any problem there, yours should work just fine.
You can't "load" the MTE files into mastertune to look at, it is just used to "restore" to bring your bike back to OEM specs.
I hope this helps a little.

Here is the answer I think you are looking for.

You must have installed the TTS software on your sons computer so you could save the original map to his computer & load the new map from Fulsac.  So now you have the software & the original map & the new map all on your sons computer.

Now you copied the original map to you computer for safe keeping.  You should also copy the Fulsac map there for safe keeping.

Now, if your sons computer dies you have the map's on your computer.  You would now need to load the TTS software on your computer so you can access the the TTS interface.  You cannot open the original map in mastertune as you found out.  It is not compatible.  Don't worry about that.  To get the original map back into the bike you need to use the save restore routine in the TTS menu.  You do not open it & load it as you did the new map from Fulsac.  You can only use the restore routine.

Go to the help file in the TTS software & it will tell you exactaly how to do a restore.

Hope this helps.
