Hot Bike Magazine FLHTCUSE Road Test
« on: February 10, 2006, 07:14:27 PM »

Just read March's issue, they also tested the Haze colored cvo. Great Pictures, and you can see the difference on the paint, still no where as bad as the Black bikes. I Have seen the haze up close and personal, its not that bad. They also said that the bike was made for those under 6' tall, which is nice to know, as Im 6'4" and as soon as I took the back rest off, I seem comfortable, but also now will have it in the back of my head that the bikes too small for me now thanks to them,  ;D  Im going to write them and hopefully can make their reader feedback section. Maybe they need to hear how unhappy this Black Crimson too tall rider feels about the bike, good and bad, the bad being the color and treatment by HD so far of -course.

Mike

I concur with the bike being too small for guys like us who are over 6 ft. ( I'm 6-4 also) I changed mine up a little. Install the footboard extensions, (1-inch) and opt for a Tall Boy seat which moves you back a little. Much more comfortable.

Mike,

No the new seat does not heat, but I haven't used the heat control very much anyway, so it has not been a problem for me. If you extend the footboards out, yes you might scrap if you go into a curve tight. I have not scrapped mine yet, and I have taken some curves at 65mph.
The new seat will run you about $215 at Benjy's, and the extension if you want to try about $35-$40.
The talboy seat has 1-1/2" more foam than stock, and moves you back about 1/2". Doesn't seem like much, but for me with bad knees and my height it has helped a lot. Plus Mama is still happy and has plently of room on the back seat.

You king-sized riders might want to talk with Corbin. Their custom seat for FLHT CVO's (a great match of design and materials) actually moves the rider back at least an inch. It'll give you needed leg room as well as straighten out your arms a little. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Wow, I had not heard about the BIG-GUY issue.  Yikes -- I have a Haze on order but I am ONLY 6-2.  You are right it is the Leg Length I suspect is the issue.  My pant leg size is 34 and shoe is 12.  Can I expect the same concerns?  Those 6-4 big guys have a couple of total height issues on me but how about the leg length?

Its not really that bad, my shoes are 12 also, and my legs are 36 lenght size, and now I see that i can easily get that extra room that Id like to have, Money fixes everything I guess, I think long legs will come in handy when I put some highway pegs on my lower bars.

I sold my '02 EG Classic to a friend of mine who is 6'4" when I got my SEEG.  He was riding a Wide Glide at the time.  Wide Glides have forward controls which he found comfortable due to his height and he was concerned at first about how the Classic would fit him.  But the only things he did to the Electra Glide were to put an extended rear brake lever on it, reverse the mounts on the highway pegs from the way I had it to get a couple more inches of distance, and raise the handlebar to its most upright position.  He toyed with the idea of removing the heal shifter to get him some more room on the left floorboard, but after he got used to using it, decided to leave it on.  After he did these things, he has been completely happy with the way the bike fits him.

I'm 6'2" and have no problem with the boards or bars.My problem was with the short shield. Once I got rid of it and got a 14" shield I was happy. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I had the same problem w/my SEEG, and once I took the backrest off found it to be a lot more comfortable. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Glad to hear this seat is working as it is on my wish list for long distance touring and when "SO" is on the back. I still love the look of the stock seat and will explore maybe a gel pack internally inserted to keep that look.

This is one option (highway pegs) you may want to explore to give you the ability to stretch your legs out. I use Kuryakyn Longhorn Offset Dually ISO Pegs, and have found these give me the ability to stretch out quite comfortably.

Are you able to look over this shield or are you looking thru it, seems rather tall to me. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] I'm currently using a 8" Dark Smoked that I picked up from eBay seller American-Thunder. Inexpensive, and keeps the stock look of bike with just a little more windshield that keeps wind off me, and doesn't create "buffeting" effect. I had tried stock Ultra-Classic windshield from H-D and found that top hit me right at eye level. Had to either sit up extremely tall to look over, or crouch down to see thru it, either way I just couldn

Hi Fired00d,
I have a very long torso and I ride fairly straight up so the 14" Clearview tinted shield comes just below my normal vision and with the euro lip it brings the air up over my helmet. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
