I go down the road for approximately 4 miles and then the payment stops and there is over 10 miles of lose gravel and cars and buses flying everywhere on the road.  One mile into this action I pause and said, “I knew there was a reason you did not choose to view this attraction.”  I turned around immediately and returned to pavement.  At this point I needed fuel!

I went in the opposite direction to find some since the GPS indicated over 40 miles away and there was a small town less than 10 miles up the road.  Another chance!  At this point you should already know that I chose Pain over Pleasure!  Any surprise here?

I found some fuel and a couple of high rollers from Vegas in a private limo at the only fuel spot in town.  Spoke with a local to see if there was another way into the attraction that was paved.  He worked there too!  “No way”, he said.  And then he and his better half stated to explain why I did not want to go there.  Suddenly it all came back to me like a bad dream…road not paved, expensive, no cameras allowed, you can not get drunk and dive off the bridge…what was I thinking?

As to the high rollers, the driver told me that they had more money than sense and they were going to this location.  They had stopped to get fuel and use the rest room and apparently were some rap artists record producers.  The driver was funny about the whole thing and said they are so drunk that I could catch a ride with them and they would not know.  I thanked him for the offer but chose to head towards Williams, AZ.

As I got back towards the interstate I saw a H-D Dealership and choose to put in for a Route 66 T-Shirt.  It was after 5:00pm and I ran into San Jose Duke, Wanda, Kingsalmon and Gina.  We only thought that we had said our goodbyes.  They were spending the night there and I had already made a reservation in Williams that was non-refundable and I had a tight schedule.

After hearing of there journey over hindsight being 20/20 I wish I could have ridden with them over.  I hope they have posted their journey somewhere.  Duke told me about this place but I was trying to make time and look what happened.

Lesson – Always listen to the Duke!

So I departed Kingspin and headed towards Williams, AZ.  Williams is a town west of Flagstaff. It’s a small town lies on the route of Historic Route 66.  It is also the southern terminus of the Grand Canyon Railway, which takes visitors to Grand Canyon Village.

When I arrived the town was filled with action.  It was Friday night and the Social Clubs where in full swing.

Now if you have been to Daytona Beach you know that they have an Iron Horse Saloon but take a look at the West Coast version in Williams, AZ.

Any place that claims to be World Famous must have their photo taken and you must have a drink or two...

After a few adult beverages and some interesting conversation at the World Famous Sultana it was time to head towards the motel room for some sleep.  The next day would be the Grand Canyon!
