Seat
« on: June 05, 2010, 02:00:35 PM »

Hi, are all of you comfortable with the original seat? After 4000 km (2500 ml) I feel it comfortable no more, I think it is too low for my legs, I am 1,80 mt tall (5,9 ft). At the Italian National Rally today I tried the standard Fat Boy, since the seat of that bike is 5 cm (2 in) taller  it seemed to fit me very much better than mine. Did anybody else have the same idea and already fix the problem? Did someone change the saddle? Any suggestion is welcome, thank you. Ciao

Not sure if anyone has replaced their seat with an aftermarket. As of now we find the stock seat is comfortable to us. There are shops that can raise, lower or reshape your stock seat. Unfortunately the only shops I know are in the States.

Thank you I just did what you suggested I asked to a shop here in Rome and next Friday they’ll rise the saddle 2 in. They will use two different materials: a sort of foam and on top another material called “memory” which will adapt exactly to the body. It seems that aftermarket saddles both HD and commercial do not fit on FLSTSE, is it true?

I haven't looked around for an aftermarket seat so I do not know if any are available, sorry. Would hate to get rid of the Buffalo insert and look of the stock seat.

I have a shop close to me that does seat remolding. They too use two layers of memory foam, one more dense than the other. After carving out the stock foam and inserting the memory foam layers they will buff the shape of the seat then stretch your cover to fit. If your shop has the gel feature I would highly recommend it and is only a little more in cost. Your southbound will be very happy you did.

Also, after modifying a seat with memory foam there will be a break in period. The seat will be a little stiff at first.

Thank you Wizard, the guys of the shop here told me exactly the same. They’ll do the job like you described saving the buffalo leather and maintaining the old design, I have an appointment with them next Friday, I’ll post a picture of the reshaping seat. Ciao.

This company makes seats but only for the rider, no passanger seats available for the Conv.

I might be in the market for one of these  :2vrolijk_21:

I was very happy with the Sundowner on my old Low Rider.

I sent a e mail to mustang seats asking about a touring type seat for the Conv. They do not and they are not going to make seats for the bike. It appears that the rails on the rear fender really screws things up . In my opinion the stock seat doesn't cut it after 100 miles or so. Ultimate seats makes a solo seat but no passanger seat.

I have an extra custom seat for the 2010 FLSTSE. I had two made out of the original pans. One for me... and one for my wife (which has never been used) who "was" going to get an FLSTSE but changed her mind to a trike! This custom seat brings the rider up 3/4" and and provides a bit "butt" support so you don't feel like you are sliding backwards. Will trade it for another original FLSTSE seat or you can make me an offer for it!

OK, so I put on the seat off my fatboy. It is a Lepera Maverick. Had to cut about an inch off the tongue of the seat and bend it out a little but it went on fine... Fiiner points as follows. Had to remove the center luggage rack to get to the next hole up on the fender. I actually removed all 3 but may put the other 2 back on for paint protection or get some film to cover the fender. This seat bolts up from the bottom so I had to disconnect the fender to get my hand/tool up in there. Had a HD plug to plug origional mount hole once the stock nut was removed. I like the way it looks and feels except for the small gap at the tank end. I guess the nose is a little shorter on this seat but for now I will deal with it that way... pics(sorry about the size i started resizing after the first 2
