Mine went into Limp Mode 5 times over the last few days during Laconia bike week. It has gone into Limp mode while traveling along the highway as well as just starting her up. This has happened before but this time rather than being towed I used the reset sequence I read on another thread, I believe it was SBB. We visited the SM last Friday since it failed that morning while we were on our way to the event. He printed pages of info and said it could be a number of things and told me that the reset code I used does not work and that I believe too much of what I read on these forums. So my 08 routinely goes into Limp Mode and Parade Mode am I missing anything else?
Good luck on your fix, for safety sake I hope they fix it.

My first question is, what did the SM say about fixing it, other than you can't believe what you read on the internet? I'm willing to bet this isn't going to fix itself, so he needs to get you in ASAP and do the complete diagnostic for the Electronic Throttle Control. Why did this SM not try to get it fixed on the spot, since it's a safety item? And I think you're much too calm about this, since this stuff can kill people if it happens at the wrong time in traffic.
There have been a ton of reports of problems with the ETC on the '08 models, since Harley did about as much testing and debugging of that system as they did on the CVO110 engines for '07. I would have to believe that the dealerships would have all kinds of technical communications from the mothership on this subject by now, and they should be familiar with proper diagnostics and recommended fixes. There is no acceptable reason for a dealership to let a customer with ETC issues ride away without checking it out. It's not rocket science, and it's a relatively simple system that should not take long to check.
As is true with all modern electronics in cars and now on bikes, good clean connections are essential. If nothing else, I would do as Kraut mentioned and disconnect, inspect, and reconnect any electrical connectors associated with the system. Could be something as simple as a poor connection.
