How not to sell CVO's by Harley-Davidson UK
« on: August 21, 2010, 12:41:28 PM »

Hi All,

Just thought I'd let you know whats its like to try and buy a CVO here in the UK.

I have decided to trade my 2010 FLHX for a new FLTRUSE in Ivory, the 'Cremebrulee' as my updated name suggests, here are the problems I have encountered so far, and I'm not the only UK customer with this problem, and it's not unique to the FLTRUSE.

1. The colours in the European brochure are different to the UK/US website?
2. A week after placing my order I have no idea what colour I can have.
3. I have no idea when the bike might arrive, although my dealer thinks November, December time.
4. No one can even begin to confirm the UK specification, so no info on tour pak lights, wheels, mirrors etc. etc.

I must be nuts to have ordered one, after all, with any other company asking you to spend £28k I guess you'd expect to know what you were getting and when?

I just want it, been after a Roadglide for years, but not imported to UK since 1999.

Interested to hear the stories of any other UK customers.

By the way my dealer has been great throughout, ringing to keep me in the loop, even when they don't really have anything to tell me.

I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end.

Cheers

Simon

Dear Simon
Same here in Switzerland!! I ordered a SESG2 in Kryptonite/Black on 6. August. My dealer said, he dont know when delivery will take place or if he gets one. Up to know I have no written contract and the dealer says that he cannot make one, because he knows nothing about delivery time.

Here in Switzerland we pay around 44500dollars(!!!!!!!!!!!) for such a bike and the service and the customer orientation of MoCo is just :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :confused5: :confused5: :confused5: ......well I cannot describe how I feel.

Apart from that they are asking 2 to 3 times more for parts, clothes and all other stuff, which makes it difficult for me to love MoCo as I did in the past.
This SESG2 is my private celebrating of 25 years driving HD mototcycles, from 1986 until now!

It seems that the european customers are just here to pay more than the rest of the world but it works after the following system :

WELCOME TO SPEND YOUT MONEY, BUT THEN f$%* OFF!!!

Hi All,

Its pretty much the same in Canada a 2011 CVO Ultra is around CDN $49,500.00 before tax, in addition in Alberta we pay a 5% GST (VAT), in the balance the Provinces they pay 5% GST and 8% Provincial Tax so 13% goes straight to various Federal and Provincial Coffers.

Here HD is sold by a Canadian Distributor  (Deeley Imports) who has exclusive rights for Canada, and of course they have costs and of course must make a profit or would not be in business. Some of the dealer networks are actually very good and some suck.

I am going to assume in Europe a lot of your higher pricing is probably due to taxes, such as VAT, Importation, EURO vs. $ US Dollar exchange etc. What would you pay for say, a BMW K1200 LT or GT etc.?

Just wondering,

HAllo geezerglide

BMW 1300 GT costs around 27000 us-dollars in Switzerland incl. VAT and all taxes.

Making profit is one thing, but for this price difference ( USA -Switzerland, the differnece is around 14000 dollars for the same bike) it is difficult to find a logical argument.

Hi all,

Its not the price that really bothers me, my FLTRUSE is £28,590 out the door, which taking into consideration registration and VAT is around £24,000 exc. Which at an exchange rate of $1.54 to the pound equates to $36,960. I believe the US price is around $34,990, plus the incidentals included in the UK out the door price. So not too bad.

Its the fact that the Moco, whether in the US or at its UK/Euro subsidiary thinks its ok to f**k us around with absolutely no regard for customer service, I cannot believe in this day and age that the Moco does not know when it will manufacture the Euro bikes and when and in what colours they will ship.  :soapbox:

I await my info, always look on the bright side, its necessary to own a Harley :huepfenlol2:

You're still buying the bike Simon.  So they continue to behave in such a way because buyer's actions teach them they can get away with it.

I accept that, so do we all chose to buy an alternate brand or not buy at all?

Sadly, the Japanese have yet to build a comparable feeling bike, and having ridden a Victory Vision, its not quite there yet IMHO.

I'll stick with it because, just like the rest of us here, I love the brand the bikes and the people who ride them, BUT there is a point for all of us..........

Ride safe

Cheltenham Harley Davidson ‎09/10 SCREAMING EAGLE ROAD GLIDE. One of only two in the UK. Looking for that something a little bit different? this bike is just that. 6000 miles, one owner, full history, legend adjustable air suspension, custom wheels plus a host of additional extras. do not miss your chance of getting this extremly rare bike.

Don't disagree with you at all Simon.  I have more option here than you do in the UK or would in Europe simply because the secondary and aftermarkets are so much more plentiful and accessible here.  It makes the decision to avoid spending money directly with the MoCo when at all possible a more palatable and a more do-able option.

When the choice, however, is between getting what you absolutely want and not getting it at all I agree.  We've worked hard.  We deserve it.  We get it as we can if we have to.  But we still let them know they could've done a hell of a lot better.  But still try to avoid granting them any more secondary spending than absolutely necessary.

I agree 100%, and rest assured, the Moco will know from me that for me to continue to spend my hard earned on their products, they have to try harder.

But, I'll wait till I have my FLTRUSE before I kick up too much of a stink ;)

I think the BMW 1300GT with the premium option is aroung $21-22,000 US.  I am looking at a used 2009 with the premium option, with 3800 miles.  They are asking $15000.  Also looking at a 2008 with the premium option with 4200 miles for $13500.

Just had confirmation from my dealer, I have the bike in the colour I want. :2vrolijk_21:

Only problem, its down for January build, so probably February delivery here in the UK.

Looks like a long winter wait.

May have to get me a sportster to play on in the meantime.

Take care.
