I have to say, in the old days when I was a young whipper-snapper, I could ride anywhere, sleep on a picnic table, or under a treee, and head out for the next destination, day after day.  However, my old bones just ain't cooperating like they used to.  We do a couple of weekend tent trips every year, where everyone will pack a small two man tent, and I got a hi-tech mini air mattress, compact sleeping bag, and that'll work for one or two nights, but for 10 days at Strugis, that just isn't going to do the trick. If we stay at a hotel, we'll ride, but if we're staying at the Chip, we're bringing a camper with AC and a shower. Unfortunately, you can't pull a big ass camper with bike.

Now, if I had unlimited funds like the dude who parked next to us at the Chip last time, that would be the route I'd go. This guy obviously was loaded, but he rented 4 of the large Chip sites, and had a crew drive a semi down there pulling a ginormous custom trailer, that had a bar, sound system, and video system that pop out the side. They put up a huge canopy that must have been 40' x 20', and set up picnic tables, brass pole and all sorts of stuff.  The guy then rode out with a few of his buddies and everything was set up like the 4 Seasons.  That was mighty impressive, and the chicks flocked in by the dozens.  He was riding a CVO RK at the time, so I'm surprised he's not on here?

I'm going to fess up and admit I trailered this time. The couple we went with had medical issues and we both trailered our bikes. They came off in Cody and Jackson for two days, Sturgis four days, and Cortez for one day. I have to say we enjoyed our trip but there is nothing like riding the whole way.
We are riding for a month to NYC with a stopover in MV starting Sept 22 to get even and hope to see some of you along the way and in MV.  :drink: Doc

I agree, the ride is the journey and that's 3/4 of the fun. And we're only 650 miles from Sturgis. However, like others, my wife has a bad hip and can't do more than 200 miles. So we pull a trailer so she can go too. Sometimes, we'll unload and I ride and she pulls an empty trailer. Or if we have to make 1000+ miles in a day, we'll haul ass with the trailer and then unload and enjoy the area. That's just the way it's become.

Not just Sturgis- the last time I rode to Myrtle Beach, I passed a couple of pickup trucks, pulling open trailers loaded with four Ultras, and the plates were from SC.  Go figure..... :nixweiss:  But, no one knows someone else's story.
True, I notice it in Daytona, and Panama City Beach Thunder beach rally too.

It always seems more are being trailer than ridden to the rallys, even when they live in state.
