2011 CVO Street Glide Speaker Boxes Installed w/ pics
« on: October 07, 2010, 11:33:43 PM »

November 18, 2010:  Replaced the Infinity speaker grilles with the OEM CVO SG speaker grilles and posted pictures of them in reply #45 below.

Ever since I saw the 2011 CVO Street Glide's fairing lower 6.5" speakers, I was curious to see if the speaker housings ("speaker box" in HD terms) could be fitted to vented fairing lowers.  So I did a little research; concluded they could be fitted; ordered a pair (primer); and installed them this evening.

Hogtunes' instructions for installing its fairing lower speaker kit is useful for this project, especially for drilling holes for the speaker wires run into each speaker box:

Here's a picture of the right side:

I'll post some more pictures in subsequent posts.

Speaker boxes and wiring harnesses prior to installation:

EDITED TO INCLUDE PART NOS.:

The speaker boxes are HD p/n's:

57419-11, speakerbox, right (prime, unpainted plastic)
57410-11, speakerbox, left   (prime, unpainted plastic)

The harness part no. is 72676-11 (use 2).  The assembled sealed end uses a Delphi GT150 mating connector and pins.  I bought these from Ballenger Motorsports:

The speakers and grilles are Infinity Reference 6.5" 2 ohm speakers, not the OEM HD speakers/grilles.  I chose the Infinitys because that's what I have in the fairing.  I also used stainless steel sheet metal screws, temporarily, to secure the grilles and speakers to the speaker boxes.

I have the Arc 125.2 amp installed and will rewire to have the amp drive the fairing lower speakers, and connect the front speakers to the HK head unit.  I have the fader control, so the fairing lower speakers will be the "rear" speakers and the fairing speakers the "front."  I'd previously had the Hogtunes fairing lower speaker kit with HT amp, and removed them since I couldn't hear them (at least not distinctly) while riding (Rinehart TD's and 3/4 helmet).  I'm optimistic that the amp driven speakers in the lowers will work better.  If so, I'll disassemble the speakers/boxes and have them color matched this winter when I have some other paint work done.

In the pre-install picture, the wire harnesses shown are for the CVO SG installation.  I chose them because they come with a weather seal.  Unfortunately, I purchased the wrong connectors to mate with the weather seal connectors, so no sound, yet.  Hopefully, I'll get it right soon and get to test the system on the road.

Bottom line:  the CVO SG speaker boxes are a direct replacement of the glove boxes in the vented lowers; accept aftermarket speakers without  drilling additional holes; and, it's a simple DIY project.

Just finished mine today. I had them painted to match an used kenwood speakers.  Hawg Wired is working. On 6.25" speakers and I was too impatient to wait so I went with these temporarily.  Here's a few pics.

I had the Hawg wired DX speakers in the lowers previously driven by the HW amp. These are a bit better fuller speaker but not a great improvement. I am anxiously awaiting HW's 6.25" speakers.

Jim, your color-matched boxes look fantastic.  If the sound is worthwhile, I'll probably change out the grilles for something that is more flush mount.  When I ordered the boxes, my dealer couldn't find the HD grilles as a valid part no., but now they can.  Bizarre situation since they had no problem with the boxes; but, couldn't find the grilles even with the part no. from the 2011 CVO SG parts catalog. :(

I too have grilles on order. They are currently on backorder and have been for the last 5 weeks. I was able to trim down the kenwood grilles so that they are almost flush.
