Type oil?
« on: October 31, 2010, 08:39:06 AM »

I'm sure this has been covered many times, but I can't find the thread. At the risk(or gurantee) of being call stupid. What oil should be used in the 3 holers. I have used Mobile 1, 15/50 syn for years, even in the 80's when many people, including the MOCO, said NO syn allowed. This is the first all one fluid scoot I have owned. Mobile 1 in all holes?? Go ahead and rip me, but give me some answers too.

Type "synthetic oil" in the search box and you should get a lot to choose from like this one Synthetic or Conventional Oil

No dumb questions here.
Some stick with the Syn3 in all three holes.
Some here use Amsoil for the motor and Redline in the other holes.
I use the below in my bike.
With 45K miles on it I am satisfied with my choice.
IMHO

Mobile1 in all three holes for me. But changing your oil on a regular bases is something we will all agree on. Every 3000 miles for me.

Please don't post in multiple boards if you're not sure ask Admin/Moderator or just post it in one board and we can move it to the correct one. Your three threads have been merged into one. Thanks.

I still look very good but different fluids in each place.  In my case Mobil 1 in the engine, Redline heavy in the tranny and have been using B&M Trick Shift (an automatic transmission fluid) for the clutches and to carry away heat in the primary.

Had used a good ATF in the primary for a long time but have Barnett clutches in each bike and Barnett recommends the B&M fluid.  Honesty I'd not have worried about switching from Mobil 1 synthetic ATF to the B&M until I saw the fluid.

The ATF and the Redline were distinct in look and odor.  The B&M product even more so relative to the Redline in the tranny.  I like having good fluids that are also distinct from one another.  Should a leak ever occur I then immediately know where it's coming from.  If it's tranny or primary might even know without having to bend down and stick a finger in it as the fluids each have such a distinct odor.  It's built in lazy diagnostics.

I use Amsoil in all holes.. 20w50 in motor and primary, I think 75w140 or something like that in Trans, can't remember.. Just did my 25,000 mile service and after draining oil the oil plug was clean, NO metal shavings.. This is the first change with the 20w50 Amsoil.I change oil at 5,000 miles intervals.. With the Syn3 I allways had very fine shavings, nothing to worry over. But Happy with a clean Drain Plug...  Hope this helps...
