stock head pipe vs. x-pipe
« on: November 01, 2010, 12:31:19 AM »

Hey guys,
Two questions,

Which would run better an x-pipe or the stock pipe with the cat removed?
(considering $479 vs. 0

What is the real difference (sound & power) between the 1.75", 2.00" & 2 1/4" baffels?

Thanks.

The headpipe answer kind of depends on what you want.  I just did the FS x-pipe on my '11 RGUSE and I am completely happy with my choice.  If you core-out the cat, I say thats very questionable, because flow and restriction presented to each headpipe is different. I know others have done it and seem happy, but in the long run, many of those who have, still went to another set of headpipes without a cat.

I found the FS X pipe to be a quality unit.  Remember, it has stepped head pipes, and a dyno-tuned X collector, so its much more than a hunk of tubing all TIG-welded together.  Mine went on like a charm and everything worked like it was supposed to.

Which baffles also depends on what you want.  Smaller means less noise, a little more torque over the less restrictive units.  The  2.25" = more noise, less torque at the bottom end of your RPM range.  Both mean more PEAK HP on top end.  I wouldn't mind seeing some dyno results comparing all three sizes.

There is a post with just that, I don't have it here on my laptop, but, you could probably do a search and find it.
The x-pipe is also good for about 5-6 HP, there is a comparison on that also.

So the Fullsac X-pipe makes 5-6 more hp than the stock 09 pipe with the cat completely removed?  That is quite a bit for just a head pipe.

This thread claims the X pipe will yield 3-4HP from a stock modified headpipe.

Still haven't found the dyno comparison for all the FS baffle sizes, but found this:  originally posted by RHEINER back in '09:  "The sound was nice too. I'm pleased with my choice of the 2 inch baffles, too. I'm pretty sure Steve told me there is no real difference in performance between the 1.75, 2 and 2.25 inch baffles he sells (at least for my stock engine), they just get louder as the size increases. The sound of the 2 inch Fullsac baffle is similar to my 08 CVO Road King with Rinehart true duals. However, even with the limited riding on my Ultra after the conversion/mod, when comparing performance between the two bikes, my 09 Ultra seems to have significantly improved power and performance over my 08 SERK."

....and also the added benefit of the ceramic coating- when you add it all up, I think it was worth it.

I bought a 09 catless headpipe from a site member, used Fullsac 2.25". I don't have any dyno numbers, I am happy with mine. To my ears they are not what I consider loud, they sound good and I can still hear XM radio at freeway speeds. The Rush pipes on old Road King are way louder. Just depends on what you are looking for. My way did save some money but may not have the highest TQ and HP numbers. FYI. Good luck.

I have the decatted head pipe on my 10 with Steve's map and am very happy the way it runs.

The only reason I did not do his  X pipe as it was not out at the time.  I thought a couple times about adding it but I probably wouldn't notice the 3-4 horsepower difference and my current pipes/shields fit good and don't rattle.

If it would have been out, I would have done the X pipe.

Hi Dave,
I put the Fullsac x-pipe on my 2011 FLTRUSE and it works great. Easy to install and I like that you can use the stock heat shields. Instead of the Fullsac baffles I went with the new 4" Rinehart mufflers. The combination sounds great. Good throttle response and power. No dyno numbers but it feels about the same as my old 2009 FLTRSE3 and I had the Vance & Hines Power Duals with the BUB 7 mufflers on it.

Thanks Joe.  How you liking the new bike.  I rode one twice out in Sturgis.  The extra inch of travel sure made it seem to ride smoother.

Thanks Joe.  How you liking the new bike.  I rode one twice out in Sturgis.  The extra inch of travel sure made it seem to ride smoother.

It doesn't handle the same as my old 09 FLTRSE3. It's hard to explain but it almost feels like driving a vehicle that is overloaded with weight on the rear. It wanders all over the road especially at low speeds. It may just be a bad tire but nothing is visually wrong that you can see.

As a vertically challenged individual I had to have the lowering kit installed in the front and low profile air on the back. Even lowered it appears to have more ground clearance than the 09.

I just ordered the V&h power duals to get-the  rid of the Cat. I have the 10 Ultra.  dealer could not tell me for sure but wants to sell me the race tuner--don't the cvo's already have all the management downloads built in ?
