2011 Zumo 660 on CVO Ultra Electra Glide Telephone use.
« on: November 12, 2010, 06:07:51 PM »

Does anyone know if you can adjust the Zumo 660 which is a built in to the CVO Ultra Electra Glide to let it use the phone (Bluettoth enabled) to pass audio thru the wired headset? The bluetooth does work by passing phone calls to the jawbone, but can't wear that with the wired helmet. That feature would make this 10 an 11.

Hey friends and neighbors,
I just found out by mistake that my Zumo on the 2011 UEG feeds the bluetooth phone thru the headsets. That is too cool and no adapters needed.

I have a 2011 URG that has the factory installed Zumo 660. Can you provide more information on this feature. I was told that you needed to use either the HDBomm or the Kennedy Technology mic module to use the Zumo phone feature with the wired headset.

You need to use an interface for the helmet microphone. The audio output of the Zumo is connected to the Auxiliary input on the front of the radio via a cable. If you have the Navigation module installed (like you do on a 2011) then the only audio feed to the radio from the Zumo are turn prompts. The audio output is not connected to the Auxiliary input on the radio by the factory, you need to purchase this cable separately, you will also need a Y splitter.

If you want to hear a phone call or any MP3 songs you load into the Zumo you need the cable as described above. If you want to talk via your helmet microphone on a phone call you need the interface, there is no physical connection between the helmet microphone and the microphone input on the Zumo until you have the interface.

Hi Jim,
I believe that you were the one that originally told me about the mic module and the Y connector in order to get the phone to work.

I'm a bit confused by this comment then by Jazzinjd. How is this possible thru the wired headset without using the module and connector?

I think Jazzinjd is referring to the turn prompt coming from the Zumo, not the MP3 songs or a phone call. Your bike has the Navigation module installed. That module will interupt the radio for turn prompts from the Zumo only, it will not allow you to make or take phone calls. In order to even hear the MP3 songs or a phone call the audio output from the Zumo has to be connected to the Auxiliary input on the front of the radio. Since this output from the Zumo is now connected to the Navigation module you need the Y adapter and another cable in order to connect the audio output from the Zumo to both the Navigation module and the Auxiliary input on the radio. In oder to hear the MP3 songs or a phone call your radio has to be in the Auxiliary mode, while it is you can not hear any other radio functions, such as FM, CD etc. The radio will interrupt a phone call via the Navigation module if there is a turn prompt.

Jim,
I understand what you are saying. I have the Y connector and mic module on my bike but Jazzinjd is referring to the phone not the turn prompts. See below.

Ok Guys.
I am telling you I have received and made calls with my iPhone connected via bluetooth to the Zumo 660 on my 2011 FLHTCUSE6  without an adapter. I still have not been able to duplicate it at will but I turn up the volume during a direction announcement when you can adjust the comm/phone volume. It does work.

Ok this is what I believe is happening.

The Zumo has a built in microphone on the front of the face. This microphone is active until you plug in an external microphone. This microphone is used when you use the GPS in a car.

I believe he is using the built in microphone, which will work just fine if you are in the garage or sitting on the side of the road although it will not sound very good to the caller if you have a bunch of noise, like cars & trucks going by. He must have the Y connector installed or he would not hear the phone call.

To test this theory put your finger over the built in microphone and try talking. If it is indeed the built in microphone the caller will not be able to hear you.

I am going on the assumption that the Navigation Module, which allows you to hear turn prompts is the same Navigation Module you can purchase and install yourself. The description for this module says it will only interupt and pass the turn prompts to the radio. In fact it wants you to turn off the Bluetooth function of the GPS.

As I mentioned, i have not installed anything above what came as original equipment. I was going slow in stop and go traffic and received a call from my daughter. I was suprised to to see it come up on the Zumo display and pressed answer. At that time I heard her thru my headset and when I ansered her she heard me thru the microphone on my helmet as I had the visor down. I carried on my conversation until I reved to move forward at which time the music from the XM radio came on and cut out my phone.
I still have trouble getting more than sporadic mp3 music out of the Zumo. I do have the three way switch in the forward position where you only hear out of the headset.
I turn all the other volumes to mute, but the voice directions come out clear and when they do I turn up the Nav/Phone volume up to full.
I know it works, but am still perplexed by the infrequent reliability of the MP3 and phone useage.

Another possibility is that having the bluetooth connection established, a jawbone works great with the unit. The jawbone bypasses the mic on the Zumo. With this in mind, when you plug in the wired headset, the same circuitry may pass the phone signal on to the headset. I will keep working on it. The directions in the Harley handbook do not go nearly far enough in describing how to use the Zumo. For that matter, neither does the Zumo manual. I promise that I do not have a Y adapter installed and the aux plug is still inserted in the face.
How do you access the aux plug anyway. When you plug a source into it, does it give you another option to select as in the AM/FM/CD/WR/XM?

Jazzinjd send me an email with your phone # and I will call you. I am just as confused as you are at this point.
