i hope i am not wrong on this but all c.v.o. harleys (screamin eagle) all have the free flow air kit i was told they have to, they come with the 103 and 95cc stage one kits and a down load is manditory :o and if you bought a harley screamin eagle 103cc from dealer all that crap is included, now i do not know what kind of down load has been done just told it had to have one, i am still new to F.I and all, but i have 06 103 c.v.o. with D&D headers and it had to be re down loaded or mapped still dont know difference, but any way i only have 200 miles on it and it hauls ass but it does pop at times when backing off, i had a new vette and it would pop and backfire on de-cel. ,i traded a 05 15th annversery fat boy for scremin eagle and the first thing i was going to do was replace filter with free flow and was told at dealer shop i allready had the high flow filter, its a necessity, so any way are we confused yet? P.S my 103 would blown my 95cc a-part and i thought that was expensive, my C.V.O cost $28,495.00 but loaded all the way, LOVE IT!!! :o

If you still have the black plastic shroud behind your air cleaner cover (stock set up), you do not have the SE Air.  Underneath it all is a stock air filter and not the K&N variety.  Maybe they think that because you have the SE emblem on the AC "it must be the high flow" ::)

They may have given you a reflash (did they charge you for it?) when they added the pipes.  You may want to ask for someone who has been there for a while and knows their stuff, but then, I'm not a HD mechanic so...

purple haze,

Part of the confusion comes from the fact that the MoCo went with the stock air filter and slightly modified plastic air box on the Touring CVO models, but the SE Fat Boy comes with the real Screamin' Eagle backplate and filter (paper, not the K&N we all know and love).  As to why, only the Harley gods know, and they're not talkin'.

Well, if you do not have a SERT and have been thinking about getting one, now is the time!

Does this mean that they are coming out with something better, or has it got to the point that the EPA will not let them produce something that will alter ECM's? I know there is a lot of pending litigation going on, and some new rules about what you can alter and can't alter on bikes, wonder if this has anything to do with it? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Unfortunately, I think it has a lot to do with it.  First no SE Pipes after 5-31, now the SERT.  Maybe they knew where they were headed when they designed the 06 FLHTCUSE and decided not to make a SE Air Cleaner that would fit!  One of the more knowedgable service writers attended the recent conference in Texas and came back saying this will be the end of a dealership providing performance upgrades which is a big portion of their business (just her opinion but probably realistic) [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Jerry, so then i am assuming that there is a K&N replacement for the Fatboy
EAGLE1,

Yes, K&N has a genuine oiled filter element for the SE air cleaner.

'd00d,

IMHO, I believe what we are seeing is the beginning of the end for performance mods of any kind from H-D and their dealers.

I think we will find that most exhaust and air intake options are going to become much more limited. I have even heard talk of dealerships not working on bikes that have exhaust mods. Nothing other than stock is the new epa rules, not that they are new..just now they are being enforced.

As for a race tuner, yes or a power commander. As for canned maps.well no two engines are exactly the same, they are within certain tolerances....so only a custom map created on a dyno will be perfect for your set up. Find a good tuner and pay the price, it's cheap insurance to ensure everything is running right. It would suck to find out your running lean after a mechanical failure out in the middle of nowhere due to this.
