You think?
Where is it in writing that your bike will be I must have missed that.
To me, they are alluding that it may happen but I missed it if it's in print.

If you look at the subject of this thread it is talking about "Factory Customization" which from what has been posted seems to be a new program starting for Sportsters.

The idea is great but i cannot even imagine the first one they screw up would be like the Johny Cash song. They should just try to improve there quality in general and allow the aftermarket to stay a float! :coolblue:

More on this.....

In February 2011, we will launch our newest innovation, H-D1 factory customization, in conjunction with the launch of the new 1200 Custom motorcycle. H-D1 factory customization will allow customers to create their personalized 1200 Custom from select OE options.   This will take Harley-Davidson customization to a whole new level by allowing customers the ability to begin the personalization of their motorcycle before the bike arrives at their dealership’s door.  A 1200 Custom with factory customization can only be ordered in a Harley-Davidson dealership and that is where a customer can really discover all you have to offer.  H-D1 factory customization, will be an important addition to our customization portfolio and will generate additional attention and interest in H-D1 and Harley-Davidson overall.

Pick a bike, any Harley bike--brand new or the one in your garage--and your local Harley dealer will tailor it to your measurements and personal taste.

I said when I rejoined this site that I wouldn't get into any pissin contests and I'm not going to, but when the veracity of one of my posts is called into question and I have at hand the means by which to defend myself, I intend to. This program is being introduced by the MoCo to customize 1200 Customs (Sportsters) BEFORE they reach the dealership  ie: at the factory. Whereas, the information in the P&A catalogue refers to once the motorcycle has reached the dealership as part of the deal you make to buy it OR bring in your existing Harley-Davidson and your local dealer will help you customize it. That's it, no wise cracks, no digs, no dinking, just stating what I read before I posted.

So it's only Sportys.  I think the key point and the question that inquiring minds want to know is......when will it apply to the baggers? :nixweiss:

Just think, this will help to close more dealerships by taking away the aftermarket installs.  I hear the bikes ordered the way you want it will actually be priced accordingly and will save the comsumer money Vs. having to buy it and have it installed.

From what I've heard it will be quite a few options.

Seat
handlebars
Chrome options Vs. Black Chrome
prolly a stripe option
Wheel options
Tank option
Fender option

I'm sure there are several more options not mentioned above

You know, somedays, you could actually convince me the suits at H-D Inc have somebody reading this site for them. We've been discussing this topic for several years now.

I know some feel the dealerships could be hurt by not installing the aftermarket or after sale parts, some of that may be true.
On the other hand think of getting service done without an appointment or a several week long waiting period during riding season. Maybe the service departments will be able to have same day service or offer a Courtesy van for customers like the car dealerships?
That may increase business.....

I still think there would be many customers who change their mind after the sale or have to change things an item at a time to keep the service departments working.
Hey but what do I know I have never worked at a dealership.  :nixweiss:

My Dealer does have free ride home and offers a free pick up service if you fly in to rent a bike, I talked to the GM yesterday he is excited but also knows this could potentially hurt there after market sales. Many questions still like warranty etc like who pays for the failed part MOCO or supplier and what about labor he said they would get all that worked out time will tell. Like previous posts I also wonder when the baggers will get the same attention. C
