I don't have any great words of wisdom on the topic but when it comes to my bikes I use Mobil 1 Vtwin 20w-50 for the engine, 10w-40 for the primary, & their gear lube for the transmission. Mobil-Exxon is a huge company with many engineers, chemists, and quality control people. Their business is energy and I trust their products.
As a teen in the 70's, I can still remember going to the state fair and watching all the miracle products from flame resistant wax to teflon oil, distributor cap spark enhancers to vortex intake spacers, and gas additives that would grow hair on my chest and get me laid. Now as an adult and a PhD Mechanical Engineer, I simply want to know it meets the specs for the motor and that I can trust it will be the same from batch to batch.
One thing about Mobil oil is that you can find it when you need it and when in a pinch, you can grab the 15w-50.
my 2 cents
