We stayed about 50 miles north of there.  Make sure you ride the Moki Dugway while you're there.  It's unforgettable.

Rode Moki in August.  Nerve-racking and unbeleivable!

Close by in Bluff, UT in a cheap motel. However, had a great breakfast and view at the Twin Rocks Trading Post.

The San Juan Inn is right in Mexican Hat.  Close to the Mexican Hat Rock, and close enough to Monument Valley.  It's not the nicest, but it's clean and inexpensive, and since they are just outside the reservation they sell beer.  If you want nice, just go on up the road to Monument Valley and stay at The View.  It's right on the rim of Monument Valley and offers spectacular sunrises if you can get up early enough.  I've stayed at both and would stay at either again depending on who I travel with and/or finances at the time.  The wife would get The View.

  We've rode in that area of Utah for two summers in a row now.  I could go back to that area every year!  Not right in that area but there is a real nice motel in Escalante, the Prospector, that isn't too expensive and Rt 12 is a must ride.

in september/october we drove the historic 66 from Arkansas to Flagstaff and then to Las Vegas and San Fransisco; in Flagstaff I hired a Softail Heritage and we (my wife in the rented Grand Cherokee) went to Mexican Hat and stayed in The Mexican Hat Lodge.This was a fabulous place to stay, a Shell gasstation on the other side of the road, a nice room, good rates, nice people and most amazing was the "restaurant", a half open air place with a bar and the famous "jake and the swingin' steaks"; I cannot explain it, you must have experienced it; the best steaks I ever had in the US for only a few bucks, served bij nice and fast working ladies; and good cold beers; we stayed there two weekends; the week in between my wife did a horseback trail in Monument Valley and I did a tour to Moab, Richfield, North Rim, Page, Mex Hat;

This was a trip way back, but I know this place was between Moab and Mexican Hat. Anybody else ever remember seeing this?
