If you are just applying gradually (and not skidding) there should be no vibration. The abs should not kick in until needed. No vibration from the front?? Are you feeling it in the pedal or the whole bike? Just the pedal could mean a slightly warped brake rotor.

you feel a slight vib. in the whole bike when rear brake is appyed under normal cond. ,maybe a warped rotor, no problem with the front at all, what causes a warped rotor :-\

Not only have I noticed it -- I have posted about it before. Mine was at two different dealers for over 3 weeks, and the techs have felt the problem, but do not know the cause. MINE IS NOT A WARPED ROTOR. I am an auto tech by trade, so I do know what a warped rotor feels like, and this is not the same feeling. My opinion is that it is something in the ABS, like the vibration is a motor vibration that is travelling up through the ABS hoses or the ABS unit where mounted to the frame. I get the vibration when using the rear brake, even when braking when the bike is moving so slow I can hardly balance the bike ( less than 1/2 MPH ). And that is not fast enough to get a rotor vibration that slow on any vehicle, as the vibration is happening several times before the rotor makes one revolution. I feel this vibration every time I pull into my garage and hit the rear brake fairly hard. DO NOT expect Harley to step up to the plate for a fix in the near future. You can probably guess  how I already know that. They have REFUSED to deal with this matter on my bike, and they say ----- case closed. For those that say, take it back, it is under warranty  ----  two dealers -- one area rep --and the Harley Motor Company refuse to do anything --  S000000000000????????    All work has to be approved by MOCO, and they say they all do that. Sure wish they would put that in the brochure, so we would know about that vibration before we fork over $38,000.00 It is not a safety issue, but it is damn annoying, and this is the first Harley I have had with this problem, but it is also the first Harley I have owned with ABS.

Two things cause a warped rotor ---   HEAT AND CHEAPLY MADE ROTORS.

I would find someone with the same MC, swap bikes for a ride see if what you & the other rider feel is in both bikes.  If you find it so in both go find a 3rd and see if they all do it & the other rider doesn't think they do then maybe you are just sensitive to something.

That wasn't meant to be a negative.  My wife hears things on the bike I never hear.  We both have slight hearing problems but her high frequency is very sensitive.  She tells me when the rubber mounts on the rear of the mufflers are squeaking, I have to go get new ones so she is comfortable.  There is something she is hearing the past 2 rides that I can't find to save my sole.

Our 09 Ultra & my friends 10 Limited, in my opion, have no vibrations and are very smooth.  Again my perspective.

Good luck.  HD's standard answer is "that is normal"

Assuming this is ABS related, I think the first thing to do would be to run the ABS diagnostics instead of just telling customers it's "normal".  Then a thorough inspection of the mounting of the pump and lines to make certain there is nothing that would transfer noise and vibration from the pump to the rest of the bike would be a good idea.  The pump (HCU) is supposed to have an elastomeric mount to isolate it from the frame; make sure it's assembled correctly and not bound up, and nothing is touching the HCU.  Also make sure the brake lines to and from the HCU aren't grounded on anything either.

Invite the dealership to roll out some other bikes with ABS and let you compare them to yours.  It's possible that this actually is "normal", even though it isn't "acceptable" to you and many others.  That's a common thing with Harley, since they don't seem to care about what irritates the customers nearly as much as they care about cheapening the product and avoiding paying to correct mistakes.

Funny that you mention that about your wife. My wife says she can also feel the vibration when riding on the back. And she is a liscenced rider, and has her own bike that does not vibrate --- No ABS

A shot of WD-40 will solve that problem.

My scooter was doin the same thing...the vib is in the pedal but not a kickin like when you tromp on em'...Dealer first replaced rear master cylinder, then ABS module...it finally was found to be the pistons were hung up in the caliper, caused by crud and when they took it aprt and cleand 'em and reseated them it went away.  That was 6000 miles ago and just yesterday I noticed it startin' back again.

Jerry, this vibration is probably not the ABS, but for him to make sure and have some piece of mind, can't the ABS fuse be unplugged and ride the bike that way?  If the vibration is not there the ABS can be ruled out.

Just a thought.
